Senior Thought Leadership Writer (Current / Former Journalists)
Astra is helping lead the search for a Senior Thought Leadership Writer for a globally recognized marketing and technology platform for a parental leave cover from late January to September. We’re ideally looking for a current or former senior business / technology / martech journalist from a major publication.
This is an individual contributor role for a hands-on, strategic content owner responsible for defining and delivering executive-level thought leadership and other content.
The role is focused on shaping high-impact content that positions the organization as a trusted, essential partner to senior marketing and business decision-makers. You will independently drive complex content initiatives end-to-end – from idea development through execution – producing authoritative, insight-driven work that supports brand, product, and business objectives.
The ideal candidate is a strong content strategist, analytical thinker, and versatile writer with deep familiarity with the digital advertising and marketing ecosystem. Success in this role requires close cross-functional collaboration with product marketing, research, editorial, sales, and events teams, as well as ongoing fluency in industry trends such as AI, data-driven marketing, and the evolving media and advertising landscape.
Key responsibilities
Content creation
Independently produce high-quality thought leadership for a senior marketer audience across multiple formats, including long-form articles, white papers, executive narratives, video and podcast scripts, and social content. Comfort using AI-powered tools in the content workflow is strongly preferred, and basic video editing experience is a plus.
Cross-functional collaboration
Work closely with product, marketing, research, and editorial partners to ensure content aligns with strategic priorities, product narratives, and market trends. Partner with sales and events teams to support major campaigns, moments, and flagship initiatives.
Project ownership & execution
Own the full content lifecycle—from ideation and research through drafting, stakeholder review, and delivery—ensuring projects are completed on time and tied to clear business goals.
Industry insight & trend fluency
Stay current on developments in marketing, advertising, AI, and storytelling to ensure content is timely, relevant, and differentiated within a competitive landscape.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in digital advertising, marketing, or a closely related industry, with a strong foundation in content marketing and strategic thinking
- A portfolio of published work demonstrating thought leadership, editorial judgment, or journalistic-quality writing
- Proven experience owning executive-level content end-to-end in a fast-paced environment, including articles, case studies, interviews, and perspective pieces
- Experience leading content workstreams from research and development through stakeholder alignment and performance optimization
- Ability to create content across multiple formats and channels, including web, email, social, video, and audio
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working alongside product, marketing, and senior stakeholders
- High degree of independence and accountability, with a track record of driving complex initiatives with minimal oversight
- Comfort operating in a dynamic, evolving environment with shifting priorities
