Role Summary
The Manager, Copywriting is a hands-on creative leader and brand voice steward responsible for shaping copy strategy, program messaging, execution frameworks, and brand positioning across the Trulieve portfolio, while maintaining ownership of copy development for major campaigns, launches, and high-visibility initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Creative Director, Florida, and directly managing one Senior Copywriter in Florida, this role establishes foundational copy and messaging standards originating within the Florida hub that can be adapted and applied enterprise-wide, partnering with hub Associate Creative Directors to guide consistent messaging direction across Medical and Recreational markets. The Manager, Copywriting combines advanced copywriting, editing, and brand storytelling expertise with strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration skills, and proficiency in AI-assisted creative workflows to deliver high-quality, compliant, and performance-driven content.
Responsibilities
- Copy Leadership: Lead the copywriting function as a hands-on creative leader—establishing and enforcing standards for quality, consistency, and creative excellence providing strategic and editorial direction across the business, and directly managing a Senior Copywriter in Florida.
- Creative Development: Own copy development for major campaigns, brand launches, promotions, and high-visibility initiatives across channels, contributing strategic messaging recommendations and partnering with designers and creative leads from concept through execution.
- Brand Stewardship: Serve as a primary steward of brand voice and positioning across the Trulieve portfolio, developing foundational messaging frameworks, voice, tone, and copy standards for Trulieve, house brands, and partner brands as needed, to be applied consistently across the enterprise.
- Compliance Solutions: Understand marketing compliance requirements and ensure copy adheres to applicable standards, partnering with Copywriters, Compliance, and other stakeholders on creative solutions that effectively mitigate risk, preserve brand integrity, and meet the needs of the business.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Creative Leadership, Marketing Operations, Brand, Digital teams, State Marketing, and other stakeholders to align messaging direction across markets, represent Copy in strategic initiatives and working groups to support streamlined communication and workflows.
- Evolution: Advance the copywriting function by pioneering AI-assisted creative workflows and prompt development standards, leverage customer insights and campaign performance to inform messaging decisions, and continually identify opportunities to elevate quality, efficiency, and scale.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Advertising, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 10 years of professional copywriting, content, advertising, or strategic communications experience, including experience leading copy strategy, brand voice, or a copywriting function.
- Portfolio demonstrating exceptional writing, editing, conceptual thinking, brand voice development, and multichannel marketing execution across brands and audiences.
- Proven ability to develop and govern brand voice, messaging frameworks, copy systems, and positioning across multiple brands, markets, or regulated environments.
- Strong editorial judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling communications.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or directing copywriters or creative talent while maintaining active involvement in high-level writing.
- Ability to present concepts and strategy to leadership and stakeholders, clearly explain creative rationale, respond constructively to feedback, and build alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to interpret briefs, identify information gaps, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience writing for digital marketing channels including web, e-commerce, email, SMS, CRM, mobile app, social media, or paid media.
- Understanding of customer journeys, audience segmentation, content strategy, conversion principles, and performance-informed creative development.
- Working knowledge of SEO and answer engine optimization (AEO) principles and content optimization.
- Experience using generative AI and AI-assisted tools for prompt development, content creation, refinement, and workflow efficiency.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, presentation, leadership, and organizational skills.

- Flexibility of hours – some nights and weekends required.
Preferred
- Experience in retail, consumer packaged goods, cannabis, wellness, hospitality, or other high-volume consumer marketing sector, or highly regulated categories like alcohol, tobacco, or pharmaceuticals.
- Experience building or leading centralized copy or brand voice function across multiple markets.
- Experience developing or maintaining brand systems, messaging frameworks, copy banks, prompt libraries, content templates, or content governance resources.
- Familiarity with content management systems, digital asset management platforms, project management platforms such as Monday.com, and creative workflow platforms.
