Legal Writer
FindLaw.com is seeking experienced freelance writers with strong legal backgrounds to update online articles and write accessible and informative new articles and blogs for consumer audiences.

Job Duties
- Research, write, and edit effective informational content designed to help users find answers to their most pressing legal questions
- Revise content for legal accuracy and to align with SEO, UX, and internal best practices
- Translate what you’ve learned from your legal experience into plain English for a general audience
- Optimize FindLaw.com content using best practices in keyword usage, headline creation, content optimization, and basic SEO
- Use performance measures and leadership input to constantly refine your writing style and content performance
Experience and Skills
- 3+ years of legal research and writing experience required
- Experience writing for a consumer audience; web content writing is a plus
- Excellent research and writing skills, with ability to research, write, and edit compelling, accurate information for legal consumer audiences under a tight deadline
- Recent legal practice experience preferred (articles will include your byline and link to your online profile)
- Prior publication credentials preferred
- A passion for and significant experience in researching legal topics and changes in the law, including using legal research tools such as WestLaw and LexisNexis
- Must be a self-starter
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required
- J.D. or equivalent experience required
This is a 100% freelance, telecommuting position. Assignments, writing, editing, and submissions are all handled through online systems. Hours and article assignments will depend on project needs.
