Freelance Copy Editor / Proofreader – $28 per hour
The Freelance Copy Editor/Proofreader will be responsible for the successful, timely, and cost-effective copy editing and proofreading of nursing/health care textbooks and other specialty publications in an as-needed capacity. This individual will work as an independent contractor and will be compensated upon completion of assigned editing/copy editing tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Copy edit in Word assigned chapters of professional nursing newsletters, texts, and other publications.
- Perform in-text citation and reference validity check per APA style (7th ed.), including proper DOI listing within the reference.
- Proofread assigned formatted chapters, including a second in-text citation and reference check per APA style (7th ed.).
- Ensure texts in outline format are consistent and adhere to textbook outline template.
- Flag any images, figures, or tables that may require third-party permission.
- Work within publication budgets as outlined by the Senior Director of Editorial Services.
- Work within timelines outlined by Senior Director of Editorial Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3-5 years of professional health care/science/nursing copy editing and proofreading experience.
- Extensive and exceptional knowledge of APA style (7th edition).
- Fundamental knowledge of current health care and nursing terminology and nomenclature.
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, or related field preferred.
- Exceptional editing, grammar, and punctuation skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- High proficiency in MS Word.
- Writing samples are encouraged.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and ability to communicate with a wide range of people within the larger AJJ, Inc. corporate team adhering to the company hierarchy and outside the organization.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to receive Word and PDF files via email.
- Ability to print Word and PDF files as needed.
- Ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines.
