Freelance Book Typesetter

Crossed Crow Books is an occult publisher based in Chicago, IL. Our company was founded to release high-quality publications that showcase the vast array of magical practices that manifest in the writings of each author we sign on. Our deep passion for books and the preservation of wisdom and knowledge through the written word, coupled with our emphasis on ‘getting our hands dirty’ with magical practice, allows us to publish books that encourage each reader to intensify and further inspire their own Craft.

We are recruiting project-based/freelance typesetters for our growing list of forthcoming titles.

Requirements:

• Possess excellent attention to detail, successful organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven work experience as a Typesetter or in a similar role.
• Experience working with and typesetting long-form books.
• Strong proficiency with Adobe Suite–especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
• Have exceptional grammar skills and a basic aptitude for proofreading.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with authors, publishing team members, and printers.
• Passion for the occult and a commitment to maintaining accurate, respectful, and ethical representations of esoteric knowledge.

Applicants possessing the skills listed below will be considered first:

• Creative design and illustrative skills.
• Familiarity with occult, instructional, and/or illustrated books.

Pay Structure:

Payment is structured per page. The hourly rate provided is based on the average page count for our current catalog.

We provide 50% of payment based on estimate page count when design sample is received and the remainder following project acceptance.

Additional Information:

• This position will require working closely with remote team members.
• Flexible work hours may be necessary to accommodate project demands and deadlines.
• May occasionally be required to work under tight timelines and handle urgent editing tasks.
