Esports Editor
We’re looking for an Esports Editor to help lead our coverage across titles like League, Valorant, and Counter-Strike. You’ll work hand-in-glove with our Head of Spilled to pitch and produce articles that are timely, smart, and genuinely worth reading. That means knowing which tournaments are around the corner, which storylines will grip the community—and when a viral tweet is just bait.
This is a writing-first role. You’ll be the point person on all things esports—crafting deep-dive features, punchy profiles, clear explainers, and rapid-fire news hits with precision and flair. You’ll also play a key role in shaping how Spilled covers competitive gaming as it evolves.
You won’t just be handed briefs—we need someone on the beat and totally self-sufficient. You’ll pitch original ideas, track emerging trends, and transform a headline into a story that sticks.
About Spilled
Spilled is the leading source of gaming, streaming, and esports news—keeping the community in sync with all the latest stories.
Imagine a world where gaming connects us all. That’s the vision at Spilled. Our promise to you is to cultivate a place where, no matter if you’re just starting or a seasoned pro, there’s something here for you. We’re dedicated to a community free from distractions, accessible to everyone, and honoring our shared passion for gaming.
What You’ll Do
- Write esports stories with real depth and voice—fast, but not sloppy.
- Pitch sharp, original article ideas that cut through the noise.
- Turn briefs into clean, compelling copy that’s ready to publish.
- Stay plugged into upcoming tournaments, rosters, org news, and platform changes.
- Spot patterns in the space and surface stories others are missing.
- Occasionally edit or polish other writers’ work with a Spilled-level eye.
What You Bring
- Clean, compelling writing—a journalism background, editorial experience, or copywriting skillset.
- Deep knowledge of the esports ecosystem and its key players, games, and orgs.
- Great instincts for what makes a good story, and how to tell it clearly.
- Familiarity with Twitch, Discord, Reddit, and the way news spreads online.
- Confidence in your voice—but willing to adapt to Spilled’s tone and style.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in a newsroom or digital-media outlet.
- Ability to manage or guide freelance writers as the role evolves.
- SEO knowledge (the good kind, not the keyword-stuffing kind).
- A solid Twitter/X presence or Discord radar for early signals.
- Interest in creators/streamers beyond esports—many of the best stories live at the edges.
The Details
- Remote, part-time to start
- Flexible hours—output matters more than online status
- Competitive pay based on experience
