Company Description Gesri is a student-run, international open-access journal and 501(c)(3) nonprofit, serving as the inaugural publication of the Georgia Emerging Student Research Initiative. The journal publishes original research, critical literature reviews, and Inquisitive Challenge proposals from high school and undergraduate scholars. With an emphasis on curiosity, craft, and clarity, Gesri supports student-led research as a rigorous and meaningful contribution to scholarship. The organization follows open-access practices aligned with UNESCO and COPE, promoting transparent and accessible work. Gesri aims to be a global forum for student research and to make scholarly inquiry accessible to diverse communities.
Role Description The Editorial Assistant is a full-time volunteer position. This role supports the editorial process from submission to publication, including screening submissions, coordinating peer review, tracking manuscripts, and communicating with authors and reviewers. The Editorial Assistant will manage document versions, format articles according to journal guidelines, and assist with copyediting and proofreading for clarity, consistency, and style. Daily responsibilities include maintaining editorial calendars, updating content in relevant systems or platforms, and preparing materials for editorial meetings. The role may also include assisting with outreach to schools and student researchers, supporting social or web content related to published work, and helping ensure adherence to ethical and open-access standards.
Qualifications
- Strong editorial skills, including experience supporting editorial workflows and applying style guidelines.
- Proficiency in Text Editing and Proofreading, with attention to grammar, clarity, and consistency.
- Effective Communication and Writing skills to interact with authors, reviewers, and team members and to draft clear, professional correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain organized records in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with academic or scholarly publishing, citation styles, or research processes is preferred.
- Comfort using common office and collaboration tools (e.g., word processors, spreadsheets, project management or manuscript-tracking systems).
- Commitment to open-access principles, ethical publishing practices, and supporting diverse student researchers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as English, Communications, Journalism, Education, or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
