Communications Specialist – $75,000 – $95,000 a year
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing, editing, and refining high-quality scripts for video and multimedia content supporting the Office for Victims of Crime’s (OVC) initiatives. This role requires strong storytelling skills, the ability to translate complex topics into engaging, audience-appropriate narratives, and expertise in script editing, formatting, and transcription.
The writer will collaborate closely with producers, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to ensure scripts align with OVC’s mission while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and accessibility in compliance with Section 508 standards. This position plays a key role in producing impactful content for key OVC events, including National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), helping to raise awareness and educate audiences on victims’ rights and services.
Work Schedule and Location:
Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and format scripts for video productions, ensuring clarity, consistency, and engagement.
- Copy edit scripts to refine language, structure, and tone while maintaining accuracy.
- Adapt complex legal, policy, and victim advocacy topics into concise, compelling narratives.
- Ensure all scripts adhere to Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices for multimedia content.
- Transcribe interviews, voiceovers, and recorded content, incorporating key themes into scripts.
- Work closely with producers, designers, and stakeholders to align scripts with visual storytelling and voiceovers.
- Revise and refine scripts based on feedback from clients, legal teams, and content experts.
- Maintain consistent formatting and style across all written materials to ensure a polished final product.
- Support content planning and brainstorming for public service announcements, educational videos, and event coverage.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a background in scriptwriting, journalism, or communications.
- Experience in copy editing, transcription, and script formatting for multimedia projects.
- Understanding of video production workflows and the role of scripts in audiovisual storytelling.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, engaging, and accessible scripts.
- Familiarity with Section 508 compliance or a willingness to learn accessibility standards.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to revise content based on stakeholder feedback.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience writing for federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, victim advocacy groups, or public service campaigns.
- Understanding of topics related to victim rights, trauma-informed storytelling, and legal policy.
- Proficiency in copy editing, transcription accuracy, and formatting for video scripts.
- Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and style guides used in government and public-facing content.

Pay Range (Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors): $ 75,000.00 – $ 95,000.00 /Yr.
