BENEFITS WRITER – $55 – 65 per hour
We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Strategic Communications Benefits Writer to join our team. In this role, you will be a key partner to our communications consultants and clients, helping to define and develop critical messaging for employee benefits communication. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in writing and editing content for a wide range of materials, including health and welfare, talent recruitment, and annual enrollment communications. Will begin at 20-25 hours until late August and then full time through November, the right candidate could extend beyond that.
Candidates must have demonstrated benefits writing experience on their resume/portfolio.
A writing assessment will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary benefits communication proofreader, writer, and/or editor on client projects, under direction from the Senior Content Writer/Editor.
- Write or edit a variety of communications, including websites, newsletters, enrollment guides, emails, posters, and postcards.
- Collaborate with internal team members, Strategic Communications Manager, and Creative Director to develop content ideas, create outlines, and write copy.
- Present copy concepts and serve as copy manager in formal meetings with senior content, account management team members, and clients.
- Monitor the progress of assigned projects through all development phases: conceptualization, drafting, review, layout, and production.
- Document and report tasks in the project management tool.
- Maintain job files and ensure final files are posted to project management platforms.
- Assist with editorial review and proofreading.
- Develop strategies to address internal communication needs and objectives.
- Produce error-free content that adheres to client style guidelines.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects with short deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal creative teams.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Manage client needs and expectations.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or journalism.
- Minimum of 8+ years of writing experience; HR and benefits communications or marketing preferred.
- Experience producing copy for digital, print, and broadcast channels.
- Strong planning, project management, and coordination skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including presentation, facilitation, and client-facing interactions.
- Excellent written communication skills across various formats (web, internal, external, email, social, etc.)
- Fluency in AP style preferred.
