Automotive Content Writer – $22 – $30 an hour
Gemba Automotive is an 8-location independent auto repair chain serving the Phoenix metro area — Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Surprise, Sun City West, and Phoenix. We are not a dealership. We are a community-rooted, independently operated shop group that takes pride in honest service and deep local ties.
We are looking for a content writer who lives and breathes both cars and the Phoenix community. This is not a job for someone who will Google basic car facts and repackage them. We want someone with real automotive knowledge — whether that comes from working in or around shops, being a car enthusiast, or years of following the industry — combined with a genuine feel for what Phoenix-area drivers experience and care about.
Your job is to make people care about vehicle maintenance. That means storytelling, not just service descriptions. Phoenix heat and what it does to a battery. Surprise residents who drive long stretches of open highway. Scottsdale car culture. Mesa families keeping their trucks running. That is your canvas.
WHAT YOU WILL WRITE
- Long-form blog articles (800–1,500 words) on automotive topics with local Phoenix-area angles
- Seasonal content tied to real Phoenix driving conditions — summer heat, monsoon season, snowbird return patterns
- Human-interest pieces drawn from real shop stories — with your own reporting instincts applied to our team
- FAQ and how-to content written for real drivers, not industry insiders
- Content that passes Originality.ai at less than 30% AI probability — this is a hard requirement
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Live in the Phoenix metropolitan area — you must know this market personally
- Demonstrated automotive knowledge: industry, vehicles, repair trends, car culture
- Portfolio of original, long-form written work (any topic — we want to see your voice)
- Ability to produce content that passes AI detection at less than 30% on Originality.ai
- Willingness to conduct brief interviews with our shop staff to gather authentic story material
PREFERRED (BONUS) QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience writing for local publications, regional blogs, or community-focused outlets
- Familiarity with basic SEO practices: keyword placement, meta titles and descriptions, heading structure
- Understanding of Google Search Console or willingness to learn what ‘indexed content’ means
- Experience with automotive shops, dealerships, parts suppliers, or motorsports in any capacity
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION
- 2–3 published writing samples with live URLs — automotive or local Phoenix content strongly preferred
- A brief note on your connection to the Phoenix area and to automotive topics
- Your preferred rate per article or hourly
- Optional: run one of your existing articles through Originality.ai and share the score
COMPENSATION
- Per Article $85-$150 Based on depth and length
- Hourly (if applicable) Research-heavy assignments
- Monthly Retainer $2000-$3500 4-8 articles/month (1-2/week)
Payment is issued upon delivery and approval. First assignment is a paid test article before retainer discussion.
