Managing Editor at Headphonesty – $1,000–1,400/month
Headphonesty (headphonesty.com) is an independent publication covering personal audio, read by millions of readers every month worldwide.
Our readers found us in their Facebook and Google feeds, which means every one of those visits was earned by a headline and an angle strong enough to stop a stranger mid-scroll. That craft is the heart of this role.
We’re a small, fully remote team that’s been publishing for years and isn’t going anywhere.
Same timezone as Singapore.
The role
You’ll own each article’s journey from approved lead all the way to a published article that people actually read.
The core skill isn’t proofreading; it’s packaging: taking a subject that looks dry on paper (a patent filing, a wear-test study, an industry pricing change) and finding the story angle that makes people click, without stretching the truth.
Around that craft sits a pipeline you’ll run day to day, working directly under our Editor-in-Chief: assign topics to writers, edit drafts to publish-ready, brief our thumbnail designer, publish on WordPress, and distribute on Facebook.
When the Editor-in-Chief is away, the pipeline runs on your watch.
What you’ll do
- Own the angle. Leads arrive with a proposed angle; it’s your call to run it, sharpen it, or replace it before the writer starts
- Edit drafts to make them publish-ready: structure, flow, accuracy, and voice
- Train on our headline craft. Final titles are currently written by the Editor-in-Chief; you’ll study what makes them perform, draft titles for every article, and earn ownership of the final call. We have a playbook. You bring the taste.
- Fact-check rigorously, including catching wrong or suspicious product specs
- Coordinate with our thumbnail designer to create a scroll-stopping thumbnail for every article
- Distribute articles on our Facebook page, re-push strong performers, and learn from what clicks
- Learn topic selection from the Editor-in-Chief over time
What success looks like
- Month 1: you do first-pass edits plus angle and title reps on every article; the Editor-in-Chief reviews everything
- By ~2 months: you own our full weekly pipeline (~8-10 articles/week), with the Editor-in-Chief sampling for quality
- Always: the articles you package get read. A flawlessly edited article that nobody clicks is a miss here. We measure performance, not just output.
This is a role with a real ramp and real ownership at the end of it, not a proofreading gig.
You’re a fit if you have
- A knack for making true things irresistible: you can look at a boring-but-solid subject and see the angle and headline that earn the click (the application asks you to prove this on the spot)
- Proven editing experience: in your application you’ll share work you edited, not wrote
- Excellent written English and sharp judgment about facts and claims
- Working familiarity with WordPress, Facebook pages, and basic analytics (the tools are trainable; the taste isn’t)
- A smart approach to AI editing tools: you use them, and you know where not to trust them
- Interest in headphones/audio (a plus, not required)
- Availability for full-time work as a remote contractor with Singapore-timezone overlap
Pay and process
$1,000–1,400/month USD base, depending on experience. On top of that, there is a monthly performance bonus: once the articles you run cross our traffic thresholds, you earn a revenue share paid per thousand pageviews, in rising tiers.
Your packaging skill directly raises your own pay, and in strong traffic months the bonus adds meaningfully to the base. Full bonus mechanics are shared with shortlisted candidates.
Our process: application form → short async questions for shortlisted candidates → paid test task ($30–50) → final interview with the Editor-in-Chief.
We respond to every shortlisted candidate.
