Technical Writer (AWS Cloud Environment) – $66,600–$111,000 Per Year
SMX is currently seeking a detail-oriented and technically savvy Technical Writer to join our dynamic AWS Cloud Consulting team. This role bridges the gap between engineering and documentation, ensuring our cloud solutions are clearly communicated, well-structured, and aligned with both technical and business requirements. This is a remote position supporting a Boston, MA based team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Gather and synthesize work tasks, technical inputs, and project updates from engineering, architecture, and DevOps teams.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for AWS cloud architectures, deployment pipelines, and infrastructure components.
- Organize fragmented technical outputs into cohesive, standardized documentation that aligns with business readability and stakeholder expectations.
- Translate complex technical concepts and business requirements into clear, structured narratives suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain and curate version-controlled documentation repositories (e.g., GitHub, SharePoint), ensuring consistency and accessibility.
- Assist in the creation of client-facing deliverables such as runbooks, onboarding guides, operational manuals, and executive summaries.
- Standardize documentation formats and templates to ensure alignment with internal best practices and industry standards.
- Participate in project planning and sprint reviews to capture evolving scope and contribute to documentation strategy and delivery timelines.
Required Technologies and Skills:
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer in an AWS cloud environment, with a focus on organizing and translating technical workstreams.
- Functional understanding of AWS services, cloud architecture patterns, and deployment automation.
- Familiarity with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD concepts.
- Ability to collaborate with architects and engineers to visualize complex systems.
- Experience creating documentation for new cloud builds, including architecture decks, operational guides, and stakeholder-facing summaries.
- Solid grasp of business analysis fundamentals and the ability to convert raw technical inputs into structured, business-consumable documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for simplifying complexity.
- Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint).
- Experience with diagramming tools (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio).
- Comfortable working in agile environments, managing multiple priorities, and adapting to evolving project needs.
