Contract Stock Market Writer– Real-Time Earnings Coverage
About Us
Flywheel Publishing is a fast-moving media company and specialize in speed, accuracy, and clarity—especially when it comes to real-time reporting on the U.S. stock market.
The Role
We’re seeking a highly capable, market-obsessed contractor who thrives on speed and precision during high-volatility earnings periods. You’ll write crisp, informative stock market updates using both your own market instincts and internally created tools to streamline your workflow.
Your work will be mission-critical to our live earnings coverage and breaking news updates, often involving tight timelines, financial headlines, and volatility events. This is a writing-first role—but if you bring some multimedia experience, that’s a welcome plus.
What You’ll Do
- Write sharp, actionable updates (100–300 words) on earnings results, stock moves, and breaking financial headlines.
- Use AI prompting tools to accelerate your work flow while maintaining editorial standards.
- Scan earnings press releases, transcripts, SEC filings, and market data to extract the most relevant insights quickly.
- Contribute to liveblog-style coverage during post-market or pre-market earnings releases.
- Collaborate with editors and other writers in real time over Slack and shared docs.
- Occasionally assist in drafting short-form video scripts, headlines, or summaries for multimedia distribution.
What You Bring
- Deep familiarity with the U.S. stock market — You instinctively understand what moves a stock
- Fluency in AI tools — You know how to write prompts that speed up your workflow without compromising accuracy
- Lightning-fast writing skills — You can turn around smart, publish-ready updates in minutes
- Experience with earnings coverage, finance news, or similar fast-paced content
- Strong working knowledge of tools like Google Docs, Slack, and basic CMS workflows (e.g. WordPress)
- Some comfort with video/audio workflows or video generation is a plus.
Success in This Role Looks Like
- Publishing fast, accurate stock updates across multiple tickers during peak coverage periods
- Hitting aggressive turnaround times without sacrificing substance
- Showing initiative in spotting earnings surprises, key metrics, and chart-worthy moves
- Maintaining clarity, precision, and editorial discipline during breaking events
Compensation & Structure
- Hourly contract role, paid based on experience.
- Flexible hours, but core availability is needed during U.S. earnings season (pre/post-market)
- Opportunity to expand hours and scope based on performance.
