We are seeking a talented Proofreader/Editor to help maintain the quality, clarity, and consistency of internal and external communications across print and digital platforms.
Job Summary:
As a Proofreader/Editor, you will review and polish a wide range of communications materials including newsletters, development reports, website content, announcements, proposals, and academic documents. You will work remotely, with occasional in-person meetings or collaboration with the Communications or Advancement Teams.
This role requires strong attention to detail, exceptional grammar and language skills, and the ability to manage multiple content workflows independently. It’s ideal for a candidate with a background in copy editing, education, communications, or nonprofit writing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proofread and edit various forms of written content for grammar, clarity, punctuation, and tone
- Ensure documents adhere to institutional voice and branding guidelines
- Edit for spelling, syntax, style consistency (AP Style or Chicago Manual of Style)
- Review internal and external documents including web pages, newsletters, letters, announcements, and promotional materials
- Provide editorial feedback and formatting guidance to content contributors
- Collaborate with communications, advancement, and academic departments to meet publishing deadlines
- Track multiple content projects and maintain version control
- Respect confidentiality and handle sensitive communications appropriately
Skills & Competencies: Required:
- Expert grammar, punctuation, and editing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and tracked changes/comments
- Familiarity with professional style guides (AP, Chicago, MLA)
- Strong written communication and language proficiency
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to editorial accuracy and brand voice
- Reliable internet and availability for virtual meetings
Preferred:
- Background in education, publishing, journalism, or nonprofit communications
- Experience with digital content management (web, email, PDFs)
- Working knowledge of layout tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe InDesign)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Familiarity with Catholic education or mission-driven organizations
Work Schedule:
- Part-time: 10–15 hours/week (flexible schedule)
- Hybrid: Mostly remote with periodic in-person meetings/events
- Reports to: Director of Communications or School President
