Stage Play Proofreader & Formatting Expert
I’m seeking a professional proofreader with specific experience in stage plays—not film, TV, or screenplays. This is for a Southern Gothic one-act stage play with dark comedy elements, approximately 75 pages in length, written in Final Draft. Please note that this play does tackle racism, bigotry, and hypocrisy.
This will be a 1099 / independent contractor / freelance opportunity. I do have additional plays planned, so this could become a longer-term relationship for the right person.
What I Need:
Proofreading: Spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency while leaving in intentional misspellings and dialect indicators.
Formatting Check: Ensure proper stage play formatting per industry standards.
Review of line spacing, character name placement, stage directions, and page layout.
Confirm that the script is ready for professional submission or staged reading.
Deliverable:
I am not looking for a marked up copy in Word where I must review someone’s changes. Instead, the deliverable I need is a copy with all formatting and edits that you make completely done for me.
🎭 Requirements:
Must have stage play proofreading experience—not just screenplays or novels.
Familiarity with formatting for live theater scripts, including how directors and actors interpret stage directions.
Strong eye for flow, clarity, and what “reads well aloud” onstage.
Ability to sign a standard NDA prior to receiving the script.
Bonus if you:
- Appreciate dark comedy or Southern Gothic tones (think Tennessee Williams and Flannery O’Connor)
- Have worked on plays with regional dialogue, eccentric characters, or complex emotional beats
To Apply:
Share a brief intro and any previous stage play editing/proofreading experience.
Please include your flat rate and relevant samples when applying. (Not looking for hourly charges.)
