Job Summary: African Media Network is seeking a skilled and creative Editor to oversee the production of high-quality content that reflects the diverse stories, culture, and current events of Africa and its diaspora. The Editor will play a pivotal role in curating, editing, and managing content across various platforms while ensuring editorial excellence and alignment with AMN’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit, proofread, and refine articles, features, and multimedia content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Collaborate with writers, contributors, and the editorial team to develop compelling and culturally relevant stories.
- Oversee content production schedules to ensure timely publication and adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain the organization’s tone and style across all published materials.
- Generate and pitch ideas for stories, features, and special projects that align with AMN’s editorial vision.
- Conduct fact-checking and research to uphold journalistic integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure content adheres to ethical standards, copyright laws, and intellectual property guidelines.
- Work closely with the Senior Editor to align on strategic content initiatives and audience engagement goals.
- Monitor trends in African news, culture, and entertainment to inform content creation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in editing or content management.
- Strong knowledge of African culture, news, and entertainment industries.
- Exceptional editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with digital content platforms, SEO best practices, and multimedia content creation.
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and analytics tools is a plus.
- A collaborative mindset with a passion for storytelling and cultural representation.
