Reports to Editorial Design Manager
Word on Fire Catholic Ministries is a nonprofit global media apostolate that supports the work of Bishop Robert Barron and reaches millions of people to draw them into—or back to—the Catholic faith.
The Junior Editorial Designer works under the leadership of Word on Fire’s Editorial Design Manager to format and design publishing materials including books and periodicals for production. The Junior Editorial Designer tracks and maintains all final print-ready files, ensuring they are organized and submitted appropriately for publication.
Location: Remote

Responsibilities
- Implement design edits to existing book layout files
- Configure approved book cover design files to fit templates from our printers
- Assist with organization of design and print-ready files related to Word on Fire books
- Manage the status of manuscripts from initial design to print through Word on Fire’s chosen project management software
- Review publishing proofs from contracted printers for consistency and alignment issues
- Facilitate acquisition/rights documentation for images used for publications including our books and periodicals
- Use templates to create layout designs for the Evangelization & Culture journal according to established standards
- Contribute to the design of new books and periodicals published by Word on Fire
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or equivalent experience
- Commitment to the mission of Word on Fire
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
- Results-oriented, independent self-starter, and expert time manager
- Organizational skills and close attention to detail
- Ability to mimic WOF style and ethos through the selection of art and various typefaces to be used in publications
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of editorial layout and design experience
- Familiarity with the work of Bishop Robert Barron and Word on Fire
- Knowledge of layout design and print requirements
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated base pay range for this position is $23.63 – $30.77 hourly (equivalent to $43,000 – $56,000 annually, based on a 35-hour, full-time work week). Word on Fire determines individual compensation on several factors, including but not limited to, experience, skills, alignment with the role’s responsibilities, and geographic location. This role may be eligible for annual merit increases based on individual performance.
