Writer / Script Editor | Charisma on Command
We’re looking for a freelance writer to help us improve older YouTube videos by making them more engaging and easier to watch.
This is a project-based role where you’ll edit and tighten existing scripts. Your job is to keep viewers watching longer by cutting unnecessary parts, improving pacing, and making the message as clear and concise as possible. The goal is to have this project ongoing on a weekly basis by September 1st.
ℹ️Details:
What you’ll do:
- Cut sections that repeat points or go off on tangents
- Rewrite long-winded sentences to be short and clear
- Combine similar points into stronger ideas
- Make sure the edited script still flows naturally
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience writing or editing for YouTube or other audience-focused content
- Understands how to keep viewers engaged
- Can write clearly, concisely, and in a way that feels conversational
- Takes feedback and improves quickly
📝How to apply:
Step 1 — Watch the Loom Video
- Start by clicking and watching the Loom video in full to understand the context and expectations of the task
Step 2 — Understand the Goal
- Take an existing video and rewrite the script to make it more concise, engaging, and better suited for today’s audience
- Use data-driven decisions, based on the video’s retention graph and audience behavior, to inform your edits
Step 3 — Review the Retention Data
- Choose one of the two videos: Tyler Durden or Keanu
- Look at the retention curve data provided in the Loom
Step 4 — Get the Transcript
- Go to the YouTube video you chose
- Open the video description and click “Show transcript”
- Copy the full transcript
- You can toggle timestamps on or off
Step 5 — Rewrite the Script
- Paste the transcript into a Google Doc
- Rewrite it directly in the Doc
- Make it readable as a script, with clear paragraphs and flow
- Make it sound natural when read aloud
- Remove unnecessary fluff, repetition, or confusing parts
- Rewrite weak parts, especially where retention was poor
- Keep or polish strong parts, especially where retention was high or replayed often
Step 6 — Add Comments and Explain Your Changes
- In the same Google Doc, add comments or an explanation section describing what you changed and why
- Examples:
- “I cut this intro down by 20 seconds because retention dropped sharply here”
- “This section was rewritten for clarity and pacing”
- “I kept this joke as-is because it was in the most replayed section”
- You can optionally record a Loom to explain your thought process (not required)
Step 7 — Submit Your Work
- Share the Google Doc with the rewritten script, comments, and explanations
- Make sure you clearly indicate which video (Tyler Durden or Keanu) you chose
📩What to deliver:
- A Google Doc that includes:
- The rewritten script, formatted and ready to use
- Comments or an explanation of your edits and reasoning
- (Optional) A Loom link if you prefer to explain some choices verbally
- We would also like you to tell us why you would be a good fit and your rate and available hours.
