Do you love gaming? Have years of experience working in online publishing – at a major outlet? Have experience managing a content team and making data-driven content decisions? Want to reach millions of readers every month? We are looking for a lead editor to join our gaming division. This is a fully remote freelance position that allows for flexible scheduling and opportunities in development and professional advancement.
Preferred candidates will have spent time working within a sophisticated publishing operation and have experience utilizing reporting platforms (GA4, Parse.ly, etc) to make informed decisions.
You Will:
- Utilize reporting to make educated content decisions and instill a culture of performance in your team.
- Work with writers to develop a unique angle or insight that will help our articles stand out from the crowd.
- Train your team on clean copy that is easy to edit, enjoyable to read, and free of typos.
- Compose and edit engaging news articles – with a focus on informing readers why the news matters – not just what happened.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of major console, indie, and mobile platform releases, studios, and other industry elements – and perform research as needed to ensure articles both reinforce our authority in the space and satisfy our readers.
- Enforce editorial guidelines and adapt writing style to site voice (with plenty of room for personal flourishes) as needed.
- Maintain professional standards of communication within our organization.
You Have:
- Prior publishing experience in journalism or other professional writing fields (technical and/or creative).
- A portfolio of past work covering video games for us to review.
- Degree and/or certification in English-related education is a benefit but not mandatory.
- Ambition, a passion for publishing, and a desire to help us connect with readers and grow our brand.
As a news publisher that operates 24/7, availability in evenings and on weekends is a bonus – as are candidates who will be excited to hop-on and help when big news drops.
