Technical Writer
The Technical Writer will support proposal development, program documentation, and technical communication efforts across federal IT modernization and mission-critical projects. The candidate will translate complex technical and programmatic information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for diverse stakeholders, including DHS, DOT, FAA, and other federal clients. This role requires demonstrated expertise in producing compliance-focused documents and the ability to work collaboratively with program managers, engineers, and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, and format technical content including proposals, reports, manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training guides, and executive briefings.
- Ensure all documentation complies with federal standards, agency-specific templates, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
- Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and SMEs to gather technical inputs and convert them into polished deliverables.
- Maintain version control, style guides, and templates across all written deliverables.
- Review and edit documents for grammar, clarity, consistency, and compliance with RFQ/RFP instructions.
- Support proposal teams by writing technical and management sections, editing resumes, and tailoring past performance narratives.
- Create visual aids (tables, graphics, charts) to enhance understanding of technical content.
- Assist in the development of Knowledge Management repositories and document libraries (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence).
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or communications within federal contracting or IT modernization projects.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and align writing with federal solicitations (RFQs, RFPs, SOWs, PWS).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and collaboration tools such as SharePoint, Confluence, and JIRA.
- Strong understanding of Section 508 compliance and plain language writing standards.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt style for technical and executive audiences.
- DHS Public Trust or higher clearance eligibility.
- Awareness of UI/UX principles
- Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in their area of expertise
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting DHS, DOT, FAA, or other federal agencies.
- Knowledge of IT modernization concepts including Agile, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Systems Engineering.
- Familiarity with graphics/design tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Power BI) for creating visual content.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or related field.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) or equivalent.
