We are seeking an experienced and skilled Journalist or Writer with a talent for translating complex technical subjects into compelling stories. This role will focus on creating engaging features and articles about standards developed for military and defense-related products.
The ideal candidate will be a curious and proactive storyteller, capable of interviewing high-level technical experts and weaving their insights into clear, accurate, and engaging content. This person will be responsible for the entire content creation process, from initial research and interviews to final publication on our client’s website.
This role is part-time, contributing to 6 published articles per year.
Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Write, draft, and edit engaging, high-quality features and articles for publication on the client’s website.
- Subject Matter Focus: Develop content that explains the development, application, and importance of ASTM standards within the military and defense industries.
- Interviewing & Research: Proactively identify, schedule, and conduct interviews with internal subject matter experts, including client scientists, engineers, and product teams.
- Information Synthesis: Gather and synthesize complex technical information about standards, testing protocols, and product specifications.
- Storytelling: Translate technical jargon and complex processes into clear, accessible, and compelling narratives that highlight the “why” behind the standards and their real-world impact.
- Project Management: Manage multiple writing assignments, adhere to editorial calendars, and meet all deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with [Insert relevant team, e.g., the communications/marketing team] to ensure content aligns with brand voice, tone, and strategic goals.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a journalist, technical writer, or features writer with a strong portfolio of published work.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex technical or scientific subjects to a non-expert audience.
- Excellent interviewing skills, with the confidence to engage with scientists, engineers, and other technical experts.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Strong research skills and a high standard for accuracy and detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- High level of professionalism and strong interpersonal communication skills.
