About Recurrent’s Military Brands
Recurrent Military is home to a portfolio of powerhouse brands including Task & Purpose, The War Zone, We Are The Mighty, Military Influencer Conference (MIC) and MilSpouseFest — each serving passionate, informed, and loyal military and defense communities. We’re looking for a talented script writer/editor with a strong voice, excellent research skills, and a passion for crafting engaging, informative scripts that resonate with our audience of active-duty service members, veterans, and military enthusiasts.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable distilling complex topics into clear, entertaining narratives—whether you’re breaking down military history, analyzing defense technology, or covering current events. Familiarity with YouTube pacing, tone, and best practices is essential, as is the ability to collaborate closely with producers, editors, and on-camera talent in a fast-moving production environment. This is a contract position paying $6,000-$7,000 monthly.
You’ll be joining a collaborative, mission-driven team that values curiosity, creativity —and you’ll play a key role in shaping the voice of one of the most trusted names in military digital media.
Core Responsibilities
- Pitch and write original longform video scripts (1,500-3,000 words) weekly, focused on military tech, doctrine, tactics, history, geo-politics when it makes sense, and current defense affairs.
- Edit and revise freelance-contributed scripts for voice, accuracy, flow, and pacing to ensure they meet Task & Purpose editorial standards.
- Conduct deep, original research using official documents, open-source intelligence, journalistic reporting, expert interviews, and defense publications.
- Ensure factual accuracy and clearly attribute all sources cited in every script.
- Write short companion articles for videos (500–800 words), and occasional standalone editorial pieces (800–2,000 words when longer is necessary) based on research and reporting.
Editorial Expectations
- Maintain and enforce Task & Purpose’s voice: factual, conversational, veteran-informed, and slightly irreverent.
- Structure scripts for YouTube: strong hooks, tight transitions, logical flow, and visual support cues for editors.
- Edit freelance drafts with a critical eye—restructure as needed, flag missing sources, rewrite weak sections, and ensure clarity and engagement.
- Provide constructive feedback to freelance writers to improve future submissions.
Workflow & Collaboration
- Work closely with the lead video producer and editor to align on visuals, tone, and storytelling needs.
- Track freelance script assignments, edits, and deadlines in coordination with the team.
- Meet consistent weekly output: 1 polished original script + 1–2 freelance script edits, with room for additional editorial support on fast-turnaround stories.
Preferred Qualifications
- A military background is highly valued.
- Ability to write in a conversational, engaging, and on-brand tone
- Background in journalism, screenwriting, creative writing, or a related field is a plus
- Familiarity with YouTube SEO best practices, including title/tag/description writing
