Omniscient Digital is growing quickly, and we deeply believe in our commitment to never compromise content quality. It’s what differentiates us from other agencies. Writing great content requires great editors.
We’re taking on an increasing number of technical clients and are seeking a stellar editor with experience working with or editing topics related to startup finance, equity structures, and compliance regulations.
*Please note that we don’t work with editors who subcontract their work.
Responsibilities:
- Edit content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and readability for:
- Startup founders and CFOs by providing actionable insights on cap table management, fundraising, equity structures, and regulatory compliance
- Venture-backed startup employees focusing on the complexities of stock options, ESOPs, and secondary liquidity markets
- Financial and legal professionals focusing on tax law, SEC compliance, and investor relations while still acknowledging their subject matter expertise
- Fact-check key concepts related to cap table management, venture capital, 409A valuations, SEC compliance, and employee equity to ensure accuracy and credibility
- Review structure, logic, and flow, ensuring that complex financial and legal topics are well-organized and accessible
- Work with writers to strengthen arguments, refine explanations, and improve engagement while maintaining consistency of client tone and voice
- Identify missing or unclear information and provide developmental feedback to improve content quality
- Check for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style consistency, following our editorial guidelines and industry best practices
- Ensure all content aligns with SEO best practices while maintaining natural readability
- Ensure projects are completed on time and meet high editorial standards
- Manage complex information and multiple projects within content specifications and budget restrictions
Job Qualifications and Technical Skill Sets:
- 2+ years of experience in editing financial, legal, or business content. Experience in startup finance, venture capital, equity structures, and/or cryptocurrency is a huge plus but not required. However, you must be comfortable fact-checking and refining content in this space.
- This includes understanding nuances of fundraising and venture capital financing, including SAFE notes, priced rounds, and pro-rata rights, as well as 409A valuation, secondary sales, cap tables, employee equity, and relevant tax law and compliance regulations.
- Strong developmental editing, copy, and line editing abilities. You also include meticulous fact-checking skills in your editing to verify financial, legal, and regulatory claims.
- Ability to simplify complex topics (e.g., SAFE notes, dilution modeling, 409A valuations). You can take these concepts and transform them into clear, engaging narratives for a mixed audience of financial experts, startup founders, and employees.
- Familiarity with cap table management tools and equity software is a plus.
- Time management and organizational skills. You always meet your deadlines—or communicate in advance when you may need a deadline pushed back.
- A passion for startups, venture capital, cryptocurrency, and financial storytelling. You stay updated with industry trends and enjoy making complex topics digestible. You also exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as healthy analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to provide clear, actionable feedback to writers while maintaining a positive, constructive approach.
- SEO experience. You’re not new to marketing and understand the various considerations that inform a piece of SEO content. You know how to help writers search-optimize their content without sacrificing quality, and can balance the needs of both your client and reader.
- Positive attitude. You’re kind, passionate, curious, and friendly! You’re open to exploring new ideas, staying updated on trending topics in the venture-backed financial space, and are passionate about crafting excellent content. You welcome feedback and love learning how to improve your craft.
- Experience with both print and digital media formats. You’re also proficient in word processor programs such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs and PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat.
Other Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience editing in a B2B SaaS, fintech, or venture-backed startup environment.
- Familiarity with cap table management, startup funding rounds, and stock option structures is highly desirable.
- Understanding of venture capital mechanics, SEC compliance, and tax regulations is a plus.
- Understanding of crypto-based equity compensation and alternative financing models.
- Familiarity with investor relations, secondary liquidity markets, or compliance reporting.
Portfolio
A recent portfolio with financial editing experience is a must. Please submit 3-5 sample articles that have been published within the past three years for consideration, at least 2 of which relate to startup finance and equity. Older samples will be accepted only if accompanied by newer works.
