About the Role
Freethink is seeking a full-time staff writer to join its editorial team. This person will be responsible for writing articles and newsletters that:
- Feature ideas, products, or innovations that could transform entire industries or fields
- Include interviews with people having an impact in tech, business, and applied science
- Provide high-level explanations of big challenges or major trends within Freethink’s beats, with expert insights on potential solutions and future trends
Core Responsibilities:
- Pitch original stories on a weekly basis
- Write articles on assignment from Freethink’s Managing Editor
- Research, pitch, and interview industry experts and influential voices
- Draft, revise, and upload at least one article per week (800-2000 words)
- Draft and revise one newsletter per week
- Collaborate with art department on visuals to support articles
- Collaborate with social media team on content for article promotion
What You’ll Need:
- A passion for journalism and storytelling
- 2+ years of experience writing for a digital publication
- An ability to write strong, engaging, and impactful content that requires minimal editing
- A drive to find fresh and engaging angles that offer new insights to our readers
- A talent for juggling multiple projects
- A positive, can-do attitude
- Openness to feedback and challenge
- Knowledge and experience in our core topic areas: tech, science, and business
- Experience using any of the following is a plus: Google Workspace, WordPress, ClickUp, Slack, Figma
- Ability to participate in podcasts, videos, and other editorial products is a plus
- Ability to occasionally edit others’ work is a plus
