Job Summary: As the Freelance News Writer,you will be responsible for researching, writing, and editing compelling news stories that highlight key events, trends, and issues across Africa and its diaspora. Your duties will include monitoring breaking news, conducting in-depth research on diverse topics such as politics, culture, business, and social issues, and crafting articles that are accurate, balanced, and engaging. You will collaborate with editors and other team members to ensure content aligns with organizational standards and resonates with the target audience. Additionally, you may be tasked with conducting interviews, fact-checking information, and adapting your work for multimedia platforms like digital media, social channels, and radio broadcasts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Writing:
- Conduct thorough research on current events, trends, and stories related to Afrobeat music, African celebrities, and the entertainment industry.
- Write clear, concise, and engaging news articles, features, and interviews.
- Ensure all content is accurate, well-sourced, and aligns with the station’s voice and editorial standards.
- Content Creation:
- Develop a consistent flow of entertainment news articles to be published on the station’s website and social media platforms.
- Create eye-catching headlines and engaging content that attracts and retains readers.
- Pitch story ideas and collaborate with the content team to develop compelling features and special reports.
- Editing and Proofreading:
- Edit and proofread articles for grammar, style, and accuracy.
- Ensure all content meets the station’s quality standards and is free from errors.
- Revise articles based on feedback from the Content Manager and other team members.
- Audience Engagement:
- Monitor audience feedback and engagement metrics to understand reader preferences and improve content.
- Stay updated on social media trends and integrate relevant content into articles.
- Respond to reader comments and questions in a professional and engaging manner.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Content Manager and other writers to align content with the station’s goals and initiatives.
- Participate in virtual team meetings and contribute ideas for content strategy and development.
- Assist with other writing and content creation tasks as needed.
