What you’ll do…
The Content Team works with the Learning organizations at H&R Block to edit and test all courses in online, eBook, PDF, and all Office 365 document formats; to create, format, and deploy eBook course materials and manage the eBook library; and to film, edit, and produce high-quality video products. They also serve these functions for certain teams outside of the Learning space, including Internal Communications, Talent Acquisition, and IT.
The Seasonal, Content Editor at H&R Block is responsible for the grammatical, layout, technical, and design review of training for all H&R Block associates, including tax professionals, field leadership, and corporate associates in a variety of functions (Global Consumer Tax, Marketing, People & Culture, Client Care and Support, etc.). They may also be asked to learn skills related to administration of our eBook platform, Inkling.
The Seasonal, Content Editor will exhibit high levels of organization, project management skills, attention to visual, written and technical details, and enthusiasm working across organizations. They are straightforward, and their focus is customer-centric.
Day to day, you’ll…
- Perform technical reviews of online courses to ensure complete functionality of the training
- Help writers to develop their writing and proofreading skills
- Offer occasional internal workshops, newsletters, and learning opportunities to the department on research, writing, and editing skills, as necessary
- Offer technical support on development platforms and tools, collaborate with department associates to ensure consistent quality of instructional materials, and to determine interim dates for specific projects
- Make recommendations for changes/additions to training programs based on personal observation and field input
- Take part in professional development activities as recommended
- Expected to grow into additional responsibilities and disciplines related to our mission
- Perform production tasks related to creating, formatting, and publishing eBooks
- Work with writers to establish project schedules and ensure assigned projects are completed on or before established deadlines

What you’ll bring to the team…

Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Journalism, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum of two years’ experience in editing, instructional design, adult education, or a combination/equivalent experience

Must be a skilled editor (grammar, punctuation, style, and reading level), and be able to provide straightforward feedback to business partners

Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Must learn company standards and review for formatting, branding, and all other content standards

Must be curious and willing to learn new skills and become proficient with new technology

Ability to work with web applications and Microsoft desktop apps is a plus, as well as being able tp learn tools including our eBook platform and reviewing in ReviewLink/Lectora

Must have excellent time management and project management skills

Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and to establish priorities, organize, and plan work
It would be even better if you also had…

A minimum of four years’ experience in proofreading, editing, adult education, or related field(s), with a strong focus on improving the user experience

Experience and understanding of Windows-based PC computer systems

Proficiency in digital platforms, eBook development tools, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
