About the Job

We’re seeking a talented Script Writer on a project-by-project basis to assist in creating scripts for ads, shorts, and across our multiple channels — Shuki, Aphmau, and Stories. The ideal collaborator will research trends, craft engaging and audience-focused scripts, and help maintain consistent, captivating storytelling that connects with our viewers—especially children and young adults.

You’ll take on projects that involve developing engaging, high-quality scripts—from concept to completion—while ensuring they align with our enchanting, playful, and whimsical brand style. Each project may include researching trends, writing compelling narratives, and refining scripts to enhance audience engagement.

The ideal candidate has strong writing and editorial skills, a passion for YouTube and gaming content (especially Minecraft), and the ability to deliver polished work that fits within fast-paced online entertainment production timelines.

If you’re a creative storyteller with an eye for trends, excellent communication skills, and a love for crafting content that captivates audiences, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do (Project-by-Project Basis)

  • Take on individual writing projects, conducting necessary research and applying analytics to craft scripts that drive audience engagement and channel growth.
  • Prepare all script materials for your assigned projects, including notes, outlines, and reference materials.
  • Write original scripts tailored to project goals and audiences, ensuring a consistent tone and logical flow that aligns with our brand style.
  • Develop short-form content ideas inspired by current and emerging trends in young adult and children’s internet culture.
  • Participate in feedback rounds for your projects, revising scripts based on direction from management and creative leads.
  • Provide clearly formatted scripts with relevant metadata (e.g., cast lists, SEO tags, and resource links) to support production and discoverability.
  • Collaborate with production and editing teams by ensuring your scripts are properly prepared for hand-off and answering any follow-up questions for clarity.
  • Occasionally assist with transcription or documentation tasks for your assigned projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with team needs.
  • Update relevant creative and theme documentation when applicable, incorporating notes or directives from upper management.

What We’re Looking For (Project-Based Creative Contractor)

  • 4+ years of experience as a scriptwriter or in a similar creative role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to craft engaging, audience-focused scripts.
  • Proven experience writing for young adult or children’s media is essential.
  • Exceptional dialogue writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong eye for tone, pacing, and emotional resonance.
  • Familiarity with Minecraft and its lore is required; comfort integrating game culture and references into storytelling is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Blockbuster mod is not required, but you should be capable and eager to learn quickly.
  • Understanding of YouTube gaming content trends and the platform’s dynamics; a genuine passion for gaming, animation, and digital storytelling is highly valued.
  • Ability to interpret and apply feedback to refine content designed for children and young adults—particularly in an enchanting, playful, romantic, and whimsical storytelling style.
  • Strong analytical mindset for applying viewer insights or video metrics to improve content engagement.
  • Capable of managing individual projects independently, while also collaborating effectively with producers, editors, and creative leads when needed.
  • Demonstrates efficient communication and timely follow-up, particularly when working remotely or asynchronously.
  • A degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Availability to coordinate and communicate during core business hours 9:00am – 5:30pm CT (GMT-6:00) when actively engaged in a project.
