Science Editor, Mashable – $75,000 to $85,000/year
Mashable is seeking an enthusiastic and confident editor to oversee content creation and strategy for our space and science vertical.
The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience as an editor or senior writer covering space, science and technology.
This role combines deep subject-matter expertise with strong editorial judgment to produce compelling journalism that is accurate and accessible to our audiences. The hired candidate will regularly create their own content as well as work with reporters to cover space exploration, stargazing and the tech that makes it all possible. They’ll be able to balance coverage of the news of the day alongside deeper enterprise work, both for themselves and their team.
You’ll manage relationships with key sources including NASA officials, aerospace companies, research institutions, and industry experts. Strong knowledge of sustainability in tech, future tech and consumer tech is also preferred.
The successful candidate will also have a firm understanding of what it takes to build an effective content strategy, optimizing our work for consumption across a variety of platforms, including search, social and email.

Qualifications

The Day-to-Day

Write and edit breaking news, evergreen utilities, and features on space exploration and observation and on the intersection of science and tech

Write and edit content about the technology driving and facilitating space exploration and observation, including consumer tech

Create content with a conversational and engaging tone

Proactively pitch stories, consistently find interesting angles and develop reliable sources
