Podcast and State Content Writer
Location: Remote
Contract Dates: Through 2025, with the possibility of an extension
Hours: Anticipated 40 hours per week

AARP is seeking a creative and motivated Podcast Content Writer to join our team. In this role, you will help develop podcast episode ideas, pitch, report, and write scripts in collaboration with our Studios team. You will also track podcast performance and work with internal teams and our podcasting partner to produce content that resonates with our audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify podcast episode ideas.
- Pitch, report and write scripts in collaboration with Studios team in the style of our Today’s Tips episodes
- Track and evaluate metrics for podcasts
- Work closely with Studios team and with podcasting company Spoken Layer.
- Annotate stories thoroughly so researchers can check the facts with minimal additional digging and upload transcripts of interviews.
- Learn how to use our Brightspot content management system and to format and produce stories, as well as our CPS/AEM content production system. Learn how to embed episodes into stories.
- Produce and update state-focused guides on elections, taxes, and other priority topics.
- Stay informed of relevant news and adjust content quickly to maintain accuracy and relevance.
- Partner with designers to conceptualize and develop visuals for guides and podcast-related content.
- Develop SEO-optimized headlines and manage production timelines effectively.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment across projects and goals.
Ideal Candidate:
- 5 years of Journalism experience
- Experience covering state legislation and political reporting
- Experience with podcast content creation and development is preferred
- Collaborative – willing to work with teams throughout the organization
- Ability to learn the production process/technical skills
