Microdrama writer – From $0.07/word
I’m interested in creating microdramas (also called vertical shorts) but find myself struggling with writing compelling narratives. These are short form videos (1-2 minutes each) per “episode” which spans a large number of episodes across a series (30-90 episodes total). Essentially, condensing a full TV show season into small chunks.
Creating the narrative requires condensing all the action into really small segments and keeping continuity across a large amount of episodes. The bigger challenge is that the most popular genre right now is similar to soap operas. The kind of titles you’d expect like “I’m having my billionaire boyfriend’s secret baby” 😀
Examples of the type of content can be watched on apps like ReelShort or DramaBox.
I’m looking for someone who first and foremost understands (even better, personally watches!) this genre and can identify concepts that would resonate with that audience. Screenplay/script writers preferred, but it’s fine if you’re a general fiction narrative writer. These scripts are usually not very dense and it’s all about pacing.
To be upfront, I’m just an individual experimenting with this direction and this is a contract gig. It would likely be a mix of you writing/concepting, as well as reviewing/improving/editing my writing and concepts. I’m not exactly sure what the going rate is for this type of work since it’s new, but I see the rules ask to state a rate at or above $0.07/word so I’m at least including that.
If you’re interested, please send me a message with your rates, portfolio and (most importantly) if you have any experience or are personally a viewer of microdramas/romance/soaps.
