Marketing Writing Manager – $70 an hour
Overview of the Position
Students for Life of America (SFLA) is
seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Writing Manager to lead our newly formed writing team. This role is essential to centralizing and elevating the quality of marketing content across all departments. The Writing Manager will be responsible for writing and editing content, managing a team of writers and editors, and implementing AI tools to streamline and enhance the content creation process. This position requires a strong editorial eye, project management skills, the ability to lead a team, and a passion for pro-life messaging.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Editorial Oversight
- Manage a team of writers and editors responsible for producing marketing content for all SFLA departments.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Director to assign editors and set due dates, taking into account team availability, PTO, and travel schedules.
- Conduct first-round edits and return drafts to writers with clear feedback.
- Score each writer’s submissions using AI tools and maintain performance records for annual reviews.
Content Standards & Resources
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive Lexicon and Style Guide tailored to SFLA’s voice and mission.
- Update both monthly for the first year, then quarterly.
- Ensure both documents are optimized for use with Copilot and accessible to all team members.
- Upload and configure the Lexicon and Style Guide in Copilot as universal reference documents.
AI Integration & Training
- Lead the implementation of AI tools (e.g., Copilot Pro) across the writing team.
- Ensure all team members are trained in using AI for transcription, drafting, and editing.
- Educate writers on the limitations of AI and ensure all content is humanized and accurate.
- Write, test, and distribute effective AI prompts for both drafting and editing purposes.
- Train Copilot to apply the Lexicon and Style Guide accurately across all users.
Project Management
- Use Asana to manage tasks and workflows for each stage of the writing and editing process.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality content aligned with SFLA’s strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Candidates must have knowledge of grammar rules and utilize the oxford comma.
- 5+ years of experience in writing, editing, or content management, preferably in a nonprofit or advocacy setting.
- Proven experience managing creative teams and editorial workflows.
- Strong understanding of AI tools for content creation and editing.
- Self-motivation in learning and problem solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Passion for the pro-life mission and alignment with the values of Students for Life.

Position Details
Position Type
- This is a full-time salaried position working at least 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with some exceptions depending on the needs of the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Writing Manager will report to the Vice President of Strategic Communications & Project Integration and will
supervise and manage student interns, as well as utilize peer management techniques to coordinate across internal and external teams.
Physical Demands
- Must have the ability to operate technical equipment such as a computer and sit for extended periods of time.
- Other physical demands may include: setting up displays, walking around campuses, standing during display times, walking outside for long periods of time (door to door canvassing) and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Travel
- Travel to bi-annual team trainings in January and July is required
Work Authorization
- Must be able to successfully complete an I-9. The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.
