Position Overview:
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Freelance Catalog Copywriter who understands that catalog copy is a conversion tool – not creative writing for its own sake. This role requires the ability to craft concise, benefit-driven product descriptions that adhere strictly to brand voice, formatting standards, and production timelines. The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgment with commercial awareness and can write clean, persuasive copy that supports merchandising strategy and price positioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write high-volume product copy for print catalogs
- Translate product specs into clear, benefit-focused descriptions
- Follow brand-specific style guides and formatting rules precisely
- Meet strict production deadlines across multiple seasonal drops
- Incorporate SEO keywords where required (for digital extensions)
- Collaborate with merchandising and editorial teams
- Revise copy quickly based on feedback and margin/space constraints
- Ensure consistency in capitalization, measurements, materials, and technical details

Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field
- 2+ years experience in catalog, retail, e-commerce, or direct-response copywriting
- Strong proficiency in MS Word
- Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and formatting standards
- Ability to write concise, benefit-driven copy (no fluff)
- Comfortable writing within strict character counts
- Experience following detailed style guides
- Ability to manage multiple batches at once
- Strong time management and deadline discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience writing for print catalogs
- Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style or house style guides
- Experience with brand voice differentiation
- Comfort working in Dropbox, SharePoint, or collaborative platforms
- Basic understanding of merchandising strategy and pricing psychology
