Fact Writer – Social Security ( USDC Department)
We are seeking a detail-oriented Fact Writer to join our Social Security U.S. District Court (USDC) Department. This role is responsible for drafting clear, accurate, and well-supported Statements of Facts and related sections of federal court briefs in Social Security disability appeals. The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex medical and procedural records into concise, persuasive factual narratives.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft comprehensive and accurate Statements of Facts for Social Security disability cases filed in U.S. District Court.
- Review and analyze administrative records, including medical records, hearing transcripts, and SSA determinations.
- Summarize medical evidence, treatment history, and procedural timelines in a clear and organized manner.
- Ensure all factual statements are properly supported by citations to the administrative record.
- Collaborate closely with attorneys and legal staff to meet court deadlines and formatting requirements.
- Revise and edit drafts based on attorney feedback while maintaining factual accuracy.
- Maintain consistency in tone, structure, and formatting across filings.
- Adhere to internal quality standards and federal court rules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in English, Composition, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and objectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to review large volumes of records and identify relevant facts.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and legal document formatting.
- Ability to work independently while meeting strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Social Security disability law, particularly federal court appeals (USDC).
- Familiarity with administrative records, ALJ decisions, and hearing transcripts.
- Prior experience as a fact writer, legal writer, paralegal, or legal assistant.
- Knowledge of legal citation practices and record referencing.
- Experience working in a fast-paced law firm environment.
