Job Title: Editorial Copywriter (Design)
Location: Remote (Eastern Time preferred)
Duration: Part‑time (20 hrs/week to start) Possible extensions
We’re looking for an editorial writer to join a design‑focused editorial team responsible for telling stories that celebrate design work, creative practices, and how teams collaborate to build technology at global scale.
This role centers on crafting clear, human‑centered narratives that transform complex and often technical ideas into engaging written content for a global audience of designers and design‑enthusiasts. You’ll work closely with editors, designers, and subject matter experts to produce high‑quality editorial content across long‑form publishing and social channels.
This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone who thrives in fast‑moving, evolving environments and enjoys shaping content across formats.
Must-Have Skills
- Experience writing and editing across formats, including long-form articles, newsletters, Q&As/explainers, and short-form copy such as headlines, social posts, captions, and in-asset text
- Experience synthesizing complex or technical ideas into clear, accessible content for a broad audiences
- Experience editing others’ writing to adapt voice, tone, and style for different audiences and contexts, ensuring brand consistency in platform-native writing
Nice-to-have Skills
- Social media strategy experience
- Experience writing about design, technology, or creative communities
- Familiarity with analytics or using insights to refine content and packaging
Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and publish long‑form editorial content including profiles, explainers, Q&As, and newsletters in partnership with authors and subject matter experts
- Craft sharp, platform‑native short‑form copy such as headlines, captions, hooks, and in‑asset text for social and web
- Adapt long‑form stories into cohesive, channel‑appropriate social and website packages while maintaining voice and consistency
- Identify timely editorial opportunities and shape them into clear concepts with strong angles and takeaways
- Edit and coach non‑professional writers to elevate drafts into polished, publishable content
- Maintain high editorial standards for quality and consistency while helping evolve voice and tone
- Manage multiple projects and drafts simultaneously, working autonomously and meeting tight deadlines
Skills:
- A portfolio demonstrating excellent writing and editing across formats, including long‑form articles, newsletters, explainers, and short‑form social copy
- Proven ability to synthesize complex or technical ideas into clear, accessible stories for broad audiences
- Strong editorial judgment, including improving structure, clarity, flow, and tone
- Experience editing others’ work while maintaining brand consistency and author voice
- Comfort collaborating cross‑functionally and navigating feedback cycles
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and evolving processes
- Passion for storytelling at the intersection of design, creativity, and technology
