Digital Content Editor- Gardening Group – $55,000-$65,000/year
The Digital Content Editor is responsible for creating, editing, and informing digital content for the Garden Group. This includes articles, blogs, columns and special projects for FineGardening.com, GardenGateMagazine.com and HortMag.com. The Digital Content Editor is responsible for ensuring that all content drives engagement, retention, growth, and positive customer experiences. They report and collaborate with the Executive Digital Editor to create targeted content plans and cadences. This individual has a strong background in writing and journalism and a vested interest in gardening content. They must be deadline oriented and able to handle multiple tasks across various platforms with minimal supervision. They must be aware and supportive of the brand’s business objectives, versed in utilizing data to inform content focus while understanding what inspires audiences. Those who thrive in this role will embrace changing business needs and content distribution methods as technology evolves. The measure of success for this position is growth in website engagement, member growth and retention, as well maintaining a targeted cadence for content velocity.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Write, edit, and produce high level/accurate online content across the Garden Group.
• Using analytics, AIM’s digital tools and audience insights, work with the Executive Digital Editor to identify areas/topics that are missing from various websites that would be beneficial for user experience/member growth.
• Manage regional reporters/their contributions on FG.com.
• Identify new areas to mine for content and develop story ideas with authors/stakeholders that feeds membership growth and retention.
• Evaluate proposals of content from prospective authors; manage and instruct freelance contributors.
• Work with (and help in initial training of) Digital Production Specialist to develop content publishing schedules and digital publishing best practices.
• Adhere to strict content delivery deadlines.
• Research and implement innovations in content engagement.
• Edit legacy content, as needed, in WordPress/Contentful, following best SEO practices.
• Collaborate on monthly content calendar for each brand (SEO topics, article metrics, etc.).
• Work with the team across brand to support special initiatives and projects including but not limited to project guides, e-learning, digital events, white papers/downloads, online webinars and social media “live” feeds.
