The Messenger is a new digital news media company, whose mission is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan news and information across every vertical, from politics and business to sports and entertainment.

Summary: The Messenger is seeking a Deputy Managing Editor, Politics to assist in overseeing the content creation and publication of political news and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in political journalism, editorial management, and project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing a team of writers, reporters, and editors, ensuring quality and accuracy in content.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Editor, Politics to develop and execute content strategies that align with the organization’s editorial voice and values, ensuring coverage of relevant political news and analysis.
  • Monitor political news and developments, keeping up to date with current events and trends
  • Collaborate with other departments within the organization, including marketing and social media teams, to ensure cohesive and effective content distribution and promotion.
  • Manage editorial projects from inception to publication, setting timelines, delegating tasks, and ensuring timely delivery of content.
  • Work with the audience engagement team to analyze audience metrics and develop strategies to grow and engage the audience.
  • Assist in managing the editorial budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, political science, communications, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in political journalism or editorial management
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of political issues, trends, and developments at the local, national, and international levels
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, familiarity with AP style and other editorial guidelines.
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple editorial projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with digital media tools, content management systems, and social media platforms
