CX Copywriter – $50/hr – $55/hr
Our agency client is looking for a Senior Copywriter with strong experience writing customer facing website copy and distilling technical information into easy-to-understand content for their client’s audience.
This role will be fully remote, freelance and ongoing. The role is expected to be around 20 hours per week but could ramp up to be closer to 30+ hours down the line.
Role Summary
The Senior Copywriter is a strategic and creative partner who transforms complex energy
concepts into simple, accessible, and persuasive language. You will own the voice of the their client’s
digital experience, working within a dedicated project pod to develop everything from high-level messaging to detailed microcopy. Your words will guide users, build trust, and ultimately drive the adoption of clean energy programs.
Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Storytelling: Write clear, concise, and engaging copy for the website, including headlines, body copy, calls-to-action (CTAs), form fields, and error messages that align with the project’s strategic goals.
- Translate the Complex: Take technical and often complicated information about energy efficiency, demand response, EVs, and other programs, and translate it into easy-to-understand, benefit-driven content for a general audience.
- Brand Voice & Tone: Champion and execute the brand voice, ensuring a consistent, trustworthy, and helpful tone across all digital touchpoints.
- Collaborate with Design & UX: Partner closely with UI/UX designers to ensure copy and design work together seamlessly. You will write copy that fits the layout, enhances the user journey, and contributes to an intuitive user experience.
- Strategic Partnership: Work with Content and Product Strategists to understand user needs and business objectives, developing messaging frameworks and content strategies for different program pages.
- SEO Optimization: Collaborate with the SEO Specialist to naturally integrate relevant keywords and apply SEO best practices to all copy, improving findability without sacrificing clarity or readability.
- Iterative Process: Actively participate in 3-week agile sprints, delivering copy in organized decks, presenting your work and its rationale to stakeholders, and iterating based on feedback and user testing insights.
Required Skills
- Exceptional Writing Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in digital copywriting, specifically for websites, with examples of clear, compelling, and effective user-facing content.
- UX Copywriting: A deep understanding of how to write for user interfaces. You know how to guide users, reduce friction, and create an intuitive experience through words.
- Simplifying Complexity: Proven ability to distill complex, technical, or policy-heavy topics into simple, benefit-oriented language that resonates with everyday consumers.
- Brand Voice Development: Experience in understanding, adopting, and executing a specific brand voice and tone consistently across multiple pieces of content.
- Collaboration: A highly collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment with designers, strategists, and developers.
- Understanding of SEO: Solid knowledge of SEO principles and how to write copy that is optimized for search engines.
- Meticulous Attention to Detail: Impeccable grammar, proofreading, and editing skills are a must.
- Strategic Thinking: The ability to think beyond a single headline and understand how copy contributes to the larger business goals and user journey.
Key Deliverables for This Role
- Comprehensive Copy Decks: Well-organized Word documents containing all final copy for website pages and components, prepared for developer handoff.
- Website Content: All user-facing copy, including headlines, sub-headlines, body paragraphs, and powerful calls-to-action.
- Microcopy: The small but crucial bits of text that guide users, including form labels, tooltips, button copy, and confirmation/error messages.
- Messaging Frameworks: Contributions to strategic documents that define the key messages, benefits, and reasons-to-believe for various clean energy programs.
- Content Audit & Revisions: A thorough review and edit of existing content to align with the new strategy and brand voice.
