About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Curriculum Writer to develop high-quality instructional content for Social Studies courses, including U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Personal Financial Literacy, and Economics, for grades 4–12. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Curriculum Manager to translate designed course structures into engaging, standards-aligned educational materials that support diverse learners and teaching environments.
You will play a key role in writing and revising lessons, researching and curating primary and secondary sources, and contributing to the development of a comprehensive curriculum approach to social studies. This position is ideal for someone passionate about social studies education, social learning, fostering a collaborative classroom environment, inquiry-based learning, and is eager to use digital tools to enhance both content and workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Development: Write clear, engaging, and pedagogically sound curriculum copy for assigned courses based on pre-established course designs and outlines. Create instructional content aligned with best practices in social studies that foster inquiry and active learning.
- Collaboration: Partner with the Curriculum Manager to ensure alignment with educational standards, course goals, and learner outcomes. Support the development of exemplar units and contribute to shaping curriculum frameworks for future revisions.
- Research & Accuracy: Conduct research to identify, vet, and curate high-quality primary and secondary sources, images, and multimedia materials for use in lessons. Ensure content is historically accurate, age-appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with state and national standards (e.g., C3 Framework, NCSS, state-specific benchmarks).
- Instructional Design: Integrate learning objectives, formative assessments,scaffolded activities, and teacher supports within lesson structures to support mastery. Collaborate on enhancing interactivity and engagement through the use of digital tools and platform features. Support planning for vertical alignment within and across grade levels to ensure coherent skill development and content progression.
- Voice & Tone: Adapt content to match the established voice and tone for the curriculum while maintaining academic rigor, accessibility, and inclusivity for diverse learners.
- Revision & Feedback: Revise content based on editorial feedback and curriculum team reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, quality and alignment with instructional goals. Support iterative revisions of existing lessons and units, including updates to address broken links, outdated content, and evolving standards.
- Documentation: Maintain organized records of curriculum drafts, edits, and final submissions using project management tools and internal systems. Track source attributions and permissions for all curated materials. Assist in tagging curriculum materials to relevant state standards and maintaining internal documentation on standards coverage and curriculum alignment.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience writing educational content or teaching Social Studies-related subjects at the upper elementary, middle, or high school levels
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly for students in grades 4–12
- Demonstrated content expertise in U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Economics, or related social studies fields
- Experience developing standards-aligned curriculum and understanding of high quality curriculum design principles
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, generative AI tools, and project management tools (e.g.,Slack, )
- Familiarity with standards-based education and curriculum development processes
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to evolving project needs
- Ability to take ownership of assigned workstreams and independently drive tasks to completion
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in an iterative developmentprocess
- Experience with digital curriculum tools or LMS platforms is a plus
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment, particularly in education or edtech
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Political Science, or a related field
- Interest in educational technology and willingness to learn new tools or processes to improve efficiency
- Entrepreneurial mindset and proactive approach to problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Understanding of instructional skill-building and assessment design to support mastery learning
- Advanced degree (Master’s) or coursework in Curriculum & Instruction, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Social Studies Education, or a related field is a plus

Pay: $55,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
