Copyeditor – $34 – 38 per hour
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Copyeditor to join its communications team on a 4-month, fully remote contract. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role will support the editing and proofreading of high-visibility content across internal and external channels. This is a mission- driven, fast-paced nonprofit environment with a casual and collaborative culture.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional editing experience and a strong portfolio demonstrating accuracy, consistency, and the ability to adapt tone across mediums including web, social, email, internal comms, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Edit and proofread a wide variety of materials including marketing content, emails, press releases, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, reports, internal communications, and long-form documents.
- Ensure editorial consistency in grammar, spelling, tone, and adherence to internal Style Guide and AP Stylebook.
- Review content for clarity, flag unclear passages, suggest revisions, and perform fact- checking as needed.
- Format documents using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint in alignment with standards.
- Work collaboratively within a five-person communications team while independently managing multiple, deadline-driven assignments.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for style and editorial standards across the organization.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience in copyediting or editorial roles.
- Strong command of AP style and editorial best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to edit across multiple formats (email, web, social, internal/external communications).
- Strong attention to detail, editorial accuracy, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, diplomatic approach to feedback and editorial queries.
- Portfolio required: Must include editing samples across various channels.
Preferred Experience
- Background working in nonprofits, healthcare, education, or mission-driven organizations.
- Familiarity with finance, insurance, or professional associations is a plus.
