Copy and Content Writer – $40 – $60 an hour
Visible Logic, an award-winning branding and marketing firm in Portland, Maine is looking for an experienced and versatile copy and content writer to join our team. We’re looking for someone ready to create content for our clients to achieve their branding and marketing goals and in support of internal marketing initiatives.

Description of work
You will be involved in many different types of projects in our studio. You will be part of a small team and the more varied your skills and flexible your work style, the better suited you will be to this position. We are looking for someone ready to start with the development of a creative direction or content marketing strategy and bring it right through the execution of each tactic and finished deliverable. Your copy will be supported with highly polished, professional design.
Primary activities
- copywriting and messaging for websites
- writing blogs and e-newsletters
- writing, editing and proofreading of brochures, print and digital ads, annual reports, press releases
- writing text for social media posts and ads
- developing content marketing calendar
- developing names and taglines for new companies and products
- writing headlines and copy for print and digital ads
- making complex information clear in infographics and explanatory charts
- writing scripts and captions for explainer videos
- writing, editing and proofreading of a wide variety of communication and marketing materials.
Other possible work
- developing overall content marketing strategy
- developing tone of voice guidelines and unique value propositions for brand standards
- doing keyword research for SEO
- optimizing website copy for SEO
Other required work
In addition to writing, you will be required to do the following as part of the team:
- Use a project management tool (ClickUp) to receive instructions and details and track tasks.
- Organize your files using Dropbox and Google files.
- Participate in meetings with team members and/or clients, mostly via Zoom but occasionally in person.
- Track your time accurately.
- Present your work persuasively both verbally and in writing.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- enjoys working on a wide variety of writing including website copy, blogs, digital ads, social media posts, naming and branding projects, case studies, emails, white papers, long-form articles, scripts for videos, and outlines for spoken presentations.
- has an interest and affinity for understanding complex B2B products and services.
- can show that they are able to work in a variety of styles and develop an appropriate voice for multiple clients.
- is good at using words and graphics together to help explain and enhance meaning.
- can generate high-level creative messaging ideas as well as quickly produce high-quality work when deadlines loom.
- has experience creating brand guidelines that include tone and voice recommendations.
- is interested in and values good branding and design.
- is comfortable collaborating with designers and at other times working independently or taking the lead on the creative direction.
- has strong experience in content-focused marketing campaigns and is eager to continue to learn more about this quickly evolving field.
- is able to juggle a variety of projects and works well under pressure and tight deadlines.
- can clearly show their writing skills through samples of their work.
- can contribute to marketing plans by recommending the messaging, channels, media, and frequency of communications.
Skills
- An ability to quickly follow or establish the right tone and voice for each project.
- Knowing when to explain and when to excite.
- The ability to recommend messaging based on client goals.
- Understanding the nuance between writing for web, email marketing, social media marketing, pay-per-click campaigns, content-driven SEO campaigns, PR or other outreach campaigns.
- Working knowledge of digital marketing and website editing platforms including: WordPress, email tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor), social media (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- An interest in SEO, and keeping up with industry trends in this area.
More details
- This is a part-time, employee (not contractor) position. 20-30 hours / week to start, with a chance of this expanding to full-time if there is a good fit.
- Pay will be based on skill and experience, anticipated $40-60/hour.
- Paid holidays and PTO based on schedule.
- We are a remote-first business and work will primarily be completed on your own.
- Exact schedule will be mutually determined but must fall within Monday-Friday 9-5 Eastern.
- Approximately every three months, you will attend in-person meetings in Portland, Maine. Travel and accommodations will be covered.
