CollegeSpring is the only national nonprofit providing teacher-led test prep during the school day, helping students impacted by poverty unlock greater options after high school. For 16 years, we’ve partnered with school districts and organizations across the country to help more than 50,000 primarily first generation, economically disadvantaged, BIPOC students unlock opportunity through increased scores on gateway tests like the SAT, ACT, and TSIA2 (Texas Success Initiative Assessment). Today, we continue to expand by maximizing impact through larger district and nonprofit partnerships and harnessing the power of technology to better serve teachers and students.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking experienced ELA Content Specialists to join our curriculum development team on a contract basis. Contractors will create and refine high-quality, standards-aligned English Language Arts content, including lessons, passages, assessment items, and instructional materials, to support secondary students’ success on college-readiness and/or state-aligned assessments. This position is based remotely.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop original ELA instructional content such as:
- Multiple-choice and constructed-response questions
- Short reading passages
- Lesson components and scaffolds
- Align all content to established standards and assessment guidelines provided
- Revise content based on feedback from the curriculum team and QA reviewers
- Review and provide constructive feedback on content created by other team members
- Ensure that all materials are culturally relevant, inclusive, and free from bias
- Participate in a project kick-off and regular check-ins (1x/week or as needed)
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Deep understanding of secondary ELAR content
- Experience with college entrance exams (SAT, ACT, TSIA2) or willingness to quickly learn
- Experience developing passages and assessment questions
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
- Experience with digital or adaptive learning platforms
- Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
- Experience working on cross-functional curriculum teams
- Ability to follow detailed design guidelines to maintain visual clarity and consistency

Task 1:
A strong ELA content specialist must be able to interpret standards, identify the discrete skills embedded within them, and design instruction that targets those skills in measurable and meaningful ways.
Read the following Texas ELA standard:
TEKS c.9(D): edit drafts to demonstrate a command of standard English conventions using a style guide as appropriate;
In a response, please address the following:
1) Break down the standard into its individual skill components.
- What are the specific skills being assessed?
2) Propose a plan for how to build lessons around this standard.
- Explain how you would scaffold these lessons for students performing below grade level.
- Propose how these could be adapted for digital platforms or virtual learning environments.
Your response should be submitted as a PDF or Google Doc. Please include your full name in the filename. Please write clearly and avoid the use of generative AI tools in crafting your response. Your ability to analyze, plan, and communicate your instructional vision will be evaluated.
Task 2:
Demonstrate your ability to design an engaging, instructionally sound lesson aligned to the following standard:
Texas Standard (TEKS) c.9(D): edit drafts to demonstrate a command of standard English conventions using a style guide as appropriate;
Using Google Slides, create a 15–20 minute mini-lesson that introduces students to one key aspect/skill of the standard above. Your lesson should be appropriate for high school students (grades 10–12), with the goal of helping them revise their writing more effectively.
