Business Plan Writer/Strategist – $20.00 – $25.00/hour
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct discovery process (interviews, document review) to translate vision into a bank-ready 3-year business plan.
- Build a full market analysis for target audience segment (women 35–55), including trends and demand drivers for food & lifestyle space.
- Produce a competitive analysis (direct/indirect competitors, positioning map, SWOT, differentiators).
- Develop a multi-stream revenue model covering areas such as: blog ads/SEO traffic, affiliate, brand partnerships/UGC, digital products & templates, coaching packages, speaking/workshops, e-commerce, vendor markets, and social media monetization.
- Create detailed 3-year financial projections (monthly year 1; quarterly years 2–3) where possible for profit/loss, cash flow, balance sheet, break-even, etc.
- (optional but desired) Define the go-to-market plan: content/SEO, email list growth, social channel strategy, partnerships, PR, and paid tests with KPIs.
- (optional but desired) Build an operations plan: fulfillment/logistics for products, content production cadence, editorial calendar scaffolding, tech stack (CMS, email, e-comm), and key processes.
- (optional but desired) Draft a hiring roadmap by timeframe to cover resource needs during business development and growth
- Identify risk factors and mitigation.
- Outline funding requirements & potential funding usage scenarios including sources (SBA/bank, grants), collateral, and repayment assumptions.
- Establish KPIs and dashboards (traffic, conversion, ARPU, LTV/CAC, retention, email growth, product margin) with a measurement cadence.
- Deliver all work in a financial-institution-ready format (narrative plan + appendices) and a concise bank/SBA pitch deck; iterate through 2–3 review cycles until finalized
Qualifications/Skills
- MBA required (finance, strategy, or entrepreneurship focus preferred).
- 5–8+ years building lender-ready business plans (consulting, boutique advisory, or FP&A/strategy roles).
- Proven success securing bank/SBA financing using plans and pro formas authored.
- Ability to create financial models in Excel: revenue waterfalls, cohort/traffic-to-sales funnels, break-even, scenario & sensitivity analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in market & competitive research (e.g., Census, BLS, industry reports, Similarweb/Google Trends, social analytics).
- Experience supporting multi-channel, creator/e-commerce/service businesses through content monetization, affiliates, digital products, coaching, physical goods, etc.
- Strong strategic writing and storytelling—able to translate analysis into clear, bank-friendly narratives.
- Project management excellence: scoped timelines, milestone tracking, and on-time delivery.
- Tools: Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides (pitch decks), Docs
- Strong communication skills
- Portfolio required: 2–3 anonymized business plan samples and references.
- Nice to have: SBA 7(a) planning experience; knowledge of influencer/brand-deal economics; Charleston-area market familiarity.
