Freelance Packaging Copy Proofreader
Our client is working on a full time freelance remote packaging copy proofer with a top retailer in NYC. Role is at least 3 months to start but often gets extended beyond that time period. Working on packaging within the home and beauty space. The Packaging Copy Proofer is responsible for accurately proofreading packaging copy for a broad range of products using established templates and style guides. This role is responsible for developing an understanding of off-price product and referencing style guides and templates to achieve accurate published packaging copy. The Packaging Copy Proofer collaborates with cross-functional teams (merchants, designers, and project managers) to ensure required copy components are integrated into consistent packaging deliverables. This position requires attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to balance creative thinking with process-driven execution to handle projects under tight deadlines.
- The company is based in NYC but the role is fully remote. Just need to work NY hours.
- Looking to bring someone onboard by the end of July. Pay rate is approximately 45-48 an hour based on experience.
Responsibilities:
Copy Proofing & Execution:
- Proofreads packaging copy against final artwork to check voice, spelling and grammar
- Maintains consistent label voice and stylization for multiple private labels
- Executes high-quality and error-free copy work and revisions prior to publish
- Adheres to templates, style guides and legal FPLA guidelines
- Reviews copy edits based on feedback from Merchants, Designers and Agents
- Proofreads new style guides, artwork templates and other projects as they arise
Communication & Collaboration:
- Leverages existing tools to get necessary product information to proof effective, accurate copy
- Partners with Packaging Designers to understand packaging design requirements and implications for copy
- Reviews copy to ensure accuracy of copy hierarchy and content before publishing
Process Management:
- Supports and adheres to standardized Packaging approval routing processes
- Excels at time management, prioritization and multitasking to meet packaging deadlines
- Creates, maintains and ensures accuracy of the copy guides and tools
- Tracks proofing edits and delivers constructive feedback to Copywriters
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience proofreading at a large retail or wholesale company; Prior work experience with packaging is preferred; prior experience copywriting for home décor product a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
