Staff Writer, Students For Life Of America
SFLA is seeking to hire a mission-driven and detail-oriented staff writer to join our newly formed Writing Team under the Communications Department. Each staff writer will specialize in a specific content area(s) and work closely with the corresponding department to produce high-quality, on-brand written materials. The writer will report to the writing manager and will take full ownership of their content, including final sign-off and accountability for accuracy, tone, and timeliness
Responsibilities
Content Creation & Collaboration
- Write and edit content tailored to a specific department or initiative (e.g., Programs, Development, Marketing, Policy).
- Collaborate closely with assigned teams to understand messaging goals, campaign timelines, and audience needs.
- Attend relevant team meetings to stay informed and aligned with departmental priorities.
Editorial Ownership
- Take full responsibility for the quality and completion of assigned content.
- Sign off on final drafts, confirming readiness for publication or distribution.
- Ensure all content aligns with SFLA’s Lexicon, Style Guide, and brand voice.
- Proficiency in receiving direct and constructive feedback from executive staff and department heads.
Content Types May Include
- Emails, texts, and newsletters
- Website and landing page copy
- Fundraising and development materials
- Training resources, reports, and Op-Eds
- Video scripts, blog posts, and social media copy
AI & Workflow Integration
- Create initial drafts using Copilot, leveraging its capabilities to accelerate content development by pulling from SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, organization websites and other content, as trained by the writing manager.
- Conduct an editing pass through Copilot to ensure the work is accurate and aligned with the organization’s Lexicon and Style Guide.
- Remain responsible for the final product, regardless of AI assistance. Copilot is a support tool, not a substitute for ownership or accountability.
- Manage tasks and deadlines through Asana or other project management tools.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of grammar rules, including the Oxford comma
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills
- Experience in marketing, communications, or legislative affairs a plus
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tasks and environments
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 2+ years of professional writing experience, preferably in nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to grammar, clarity, and tone
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and project management platforms (e.g., Asana)
- Experience with and willingness to learn and apply AI tools in the writing process
- Experience in CoPilot AI Systems preferred, or the ability to adapt to further AI training.
- Ability to rapidly produce content and efficiently respond to edits and changes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
- Passion for the pro-life mission and alignment with the values of Students for Life

Position Details
Position Type
- This is a full-time salaried position working at least 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Reports to the writing manager. No direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Will collaborate with other departments and department heads.
Physical Demands
- Must have the ability to operate technical equipment such as a computer and sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to withstand long periods of driving.
- Other physical demands may occasionally include: setting up displays, walking around campuses, standing during display times, walking outside for long periods of time (door to door canvassing) and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Travel
- Travel to bi-annual team trainings in January and July is required
Work Authorization
- Must be able to successfully complete an I-9. The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.
