Mafia Romance Book Writer – $25 – $28/hour
Ghostwriter Needed Long-Term for Mafia Romance Full-Length Novels
RoseHarbor Publishing is seeking a creative ghostwriter to write novel-length books for the mafia romance genre on a monthly basis, long-term. This position is flexible—work when you want—as long as deadlines are met and communication is prompt.
Must be able to write in U.S. English, first person POV, present and past tense, while alternating POVs between the hero and heroine. Must have excellent research skills and be able to write dynamic characters who are involved in organized crime syndicates (this means having/acquiring knowledge of the hierarchy and titles within different mob families—Italian, Russian, Irish, etc.—along with the types of illegal and legal business ventures common among such crime syndicates) within a series of interconnected romance novels that is geared toward women. Character development, strong romantic arcs, suspenseful writing with unique plots with surprising twists, and witty dialogue are a must—the story is important.
Must have a strong background in writing romance.
We are looking for a dependable writer to work with long-term in a team environment who can write quickly and deliver books on a regular basis. Must have good communication skills, as communicating with us for deadlines is a must. We need someone willing to adapt to our style and work independently while at the same time being open to revisions and suggestions. We work as a team and care about our writers. This is a good opportunity for someone who wants job security.
Books will be written from a detailed outline and story arc you’ll be provided. You will be given a chapter-by-chapter outline to work from but will still have some creative license. We expect your work to proofread and self-edit. Our editing team will review what you create, and if needed, send it back to you for revisions. You will be working with editors who are experienced in the genre, on an online shared environment, and must be open to suggestions and constructive criticism from another set of eyes. The team will be there to provide help and suggestions where needed. The goal is to work together to create the perfect mafia romance novels.
Requirements
- Write 80,000 to 90,000-word novels in a series, following a detailed outline.
- Write in first person, present or past tense, alternating POVs. [Note: We most often use present tense, but if hired, please check with the team before you begin writing.]
- Understand and navigate the hierarchy within mob families as well as have an understanding of terms that may be used in a foreign language (i.e., the Russian mob is referred to as the bratva, the Russian mob boss is often called the pakhan). Readers of this genre tend to read voraciously and will expect our books to reflect common terminology used within the genre regarding various types of mafia families.
- Ability to create a strong romantic arc, sexual and romantic tension, and a swoon-worthy hero.
- Be able to fill in for another writer, finishing a series if needed, emulating the characters of the series.
- Deadline driven and able to provide books on time for the continuation of the series.
- Able to self-edit and proofread work before submitting.
- Research skills to ensure accuracy for real-world details and the ability to document research.
- Work in an online shared team environment while also working independently (may be required to participate in discussions surrounding plot/backstory that includes editors, outline manager, and outline writer assigned to the series).
- Take constructive criticism.
- Able to respond to communication within 24 hours (if you are sick or will be late on a deadline, you agree to send a message).
- Use an up-to-date version of Microsoft Word.
- Must be willing to learn our style: Chicago Manual of Style, Merriam-Webster, and the RoseHarbor Publishing Guidelines, which will be provided to you.
- Please be sure your skills match the requirements above and that you will have the time to work with us and to devote to creating full-length novels within a series.
