Technical Writer III

Position Overview:
Elevated Technologies, LLC is seeking an experienced Technical Writer III with 6–10 years of specialized experience in developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and deep expertise in the S1000D specification. This senior-level role supports defense and aerospace technical documentation programs and requires collaboration across engineering, logistics, and program management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development and sustainment of S1000D-compliant IETMs for complex military systems.
- Interpret complex engineering data, drawings, and system architecture to generate accurate and user-focused technical content.
- Apply best practices in technical writing, XML structuring, and Common Source Database (CSDB) use.
- Perform content validation and ensure compliance with S1000D, and project-specific data module requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on S1000D implementation, guiding junior writers and providing input to documentation strategy and workflows.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define technical documentation requirements and integrate updates from engineering change orders.
- Provide oversight for version control, content reuse strategy, and configuration management.
- Lead or support technical manual validation and verification (V&V) activities, including logistics support analysis reviews and user evaluations.
- Contribute to internal process improvement and compliance with military standards such as MIL-STD-40051-2B, MIL-HDBK-1222F, MIL-STD-40051-1D, MIL-STD-40051-2D, MIL-PRF-63029J, MIL-PRF63033, and S1000D.
Required Qualifications:
- Possess or be eligible for government clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent military experience).
- 6–10 years of experience in developing technical manuals with proven expertise in S1000D (Issue 4.0 or later).
- In-depth knowledge of XML authoring tools (e.g., Arbortext Editor, Oxygen XML, R4i, SDL Contenta, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with CSDB platforms and content lifecycle management.
- Strong understanding of data module authoring from conventional and unconventional sources.
- Proven leadership in complex documentation projects, including mentoring or overseeing other technical writers.
- Exceptional attention to detail, technical accuracy, and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting U.S. DoD or NATO defense acquisition programs.
- Familiarity with SCORM, xAPI, and Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) integration with IETMs.
- Experience with 3D technical data integration into publications (e.g., XVL Studio or JT viewers).
- Knowledge of DoD logistics systems and sustainment planning (e.g., ILS, LSA).

- have the ability to meet Army Conus Replacement Center (CRC) MOD-17 medical requirements for deployment.
