COURIER seeks a National Opinion Editor to join its national division.
Reporting to the Managing Director of COURIER National, the National Opinion Editor will help build and maintain a robust slate of mission-aligned partnerships, facilitate collaborative relationships with external partners, execute the team’s video and print op-ed program, including taking the lead on editing and fact-checking, and assist the national team in executing its editorial priorities.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter with connections on the Hill, an eye for content, and a drive for political journalism who is looking to grow into an editor role at a fast-paced and growing new media outlet.
Candidates local to the D.C. area are preferred but not a requirement.
Partnerships role & responsibilities include:
Lead outreach to mission-aligned organizations, establishing publishing partnerships on social media platforms and op-ed print contributions
Continue to develop and foster relationships and sources with elected officials, political activists, and other key stakeholders
Lead on outreach, production, and distribution of video and print op-eds, from pitch to final piece
Build and maintain a robust Rolodex of potential contributors and influencers—ranging from U.S. senators to niche content creators
Assist national staff with booking for web series, podcasts, reporting projects, etc.
Editorial role & responsibilities include:
Work with the COURIER’s Chief Political Correspondent on reporting, sourcing, and content production to provide coverage of national news
Book interviews with subjects for national reporting projects
Serve as field producer for COURIER’s Chief Political Correspondent when possible
Opportunity to be an on-camera reporting voice for distribution on all of COURIER’s digital platforms
The ideal candidate will have some of the following:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in political communication, social content curation, or brand partnerships
Strong background in political content creation or progressive media
Strong knowledge of best practices in social media management
Highly in-tune with breaking news, current events, and trends
An existing network of political leaders and organizations to facilitate collaborations with
Knowledge and/or an interest in understanding what’s happening in DC AND in key states across the country
Comfortable representing COURIER in meetings with external partners
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Video and graphic design skills are not required but preferred
Salary: $100,000-$120,000
