MISSION for Writing Coach
EDvance College seeks a passionate and experienced Writing Coach to join our writing support team. Writing Coaches at EDvance College are embedded in writing development courses working closely with faculty and students in the Early Childhood Studies bachelor’s degree program. In this role, Writing Coaches are part of a learning community of writing coaches who are supported and trained to provide writing development support specifically focused in the discipline and genres of early childhood education.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Embedded Writing Development and Faculty Support in Courses
- Collaborate with the instructor to create and lead weekly writing sessions with slides, small and large group activities, and writing skill instruction.
- Participate in instructional sessions to fully understand the course content and objectives.
- Co-lead writing support sessions to facilitate writing development activities and targeted guidance and feedback to support students’ writing development
- Collaborate with the faculty on a weekly basis to review lesson plans.
- Provide feedback to faculty regarding student and course outcomes
Asynchronous Writing Development Support
- Monitor discussion forums and provide writing-related guidance when needed.
- Assist in creating and organizing writing resources in Canvas.
- Contribute to Canvas modules with relevant materials for writing support sessions.
Direct Writing Support
- Provide one-on-one or small group writing support to students.
- Ensure that students clearly understand assignment requirements.
- Assist students with various aspects of the writing process, including thinking, organizing, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Provide guidance on effective research, citation, and academic integrity.
- Provide feedback on grammar, structure, clarity, and overall organization of written work.
Professional Development
- Attend the bi-weeky writing coach meetings
- Collaborate with other writing coaches to share resources, strategies, and experiences.
- Attend the remote cohort kickoffs at the beginning of each semester
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Language Arts, Early Childhood Education, or related field
- One (1) year of experience tutoring, teaching, and/or training experience AND one (1) year experience in ECE or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- Proficiency in APA formatting for references and citations
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Proficiency using Google Workspace, Zoom, and Canvas
- Willingness to learn, adopt, and grow your skill set using generative AI tools, preferably Google products such as Gemini, Learning LM, and Notebook LM.
- A background check (may include: employment and education verification, criminal records, civil records, professional licenses, credit and sex offender registries, as position requires). Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check and pass the criminal portion of the check may affect employment eligibility as it relates to the job specific duties listed below:
- Access to confidential student records
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in TESOL, composition, or related field
- More than one year experience in child development and early childhood education
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin.
- Prior experience as a writing coach or tutor with EDvance
- Willingness to work flexibly, including occasionally meeting students evenings, weekends
COMPENSATION
$30.70 – $35.65 per hour to be determined based upon education and experience.
This is not a benefits eligible position.
Positions hired at 75% time or higher are eligible for EDvance College’s comprehensive benefits package (i.e., medical/dental/vision, 401k and additional peripheral benefits including but not limited to flexible spending accounts, life insurance, etc.). Eligibility for medical/dental/vision benefits begins the first day of the month following the date of hire. Eligibility for 401k plan participation begins the first of the month 60 days following the date of hire.
