A lot about you
The Yahoo Local team seeks an experienced writer to create best-of guides and help and how-to articles related to local businesses, specifically but not limited to moving companies and related services, as well as profiles and evaluations of those services.
The ideal candidate has years of direct experience covering professional movers or the moving industry, including a proven track record of creating successful performance marketing content, pitching creative and unique story ideas, building articles in a CMS, interviewing experts, updating existing articles, and testing products and services. Experience covering other local businesses is a benefit.
You’ll need to be detail-oriented, deeply understand SEO and industry trends, and be passionate about crafting creative and engaging content that builds trust. Yahoo Local editorial team members love creating quality content and strive for perfection in doing so. This role is either fully remote or you can work at one of our Yahoo offices across the US.
Responsibilities:
- Own the U.S. moving beat with passion and authority
- Write, edit and publish a variety of well-researched and sometimes sourced local service-focused articles
- Pitch timely, creative story ideas based on research that align with Yahoo Local’s mission
- Utilize Yahoo’s CMS to build new articles and update content
- Willingness and ability to build on current expertise in moving and, eventually, new local service markets
- Stay abreast of evolving user interests
- Utilize SEO best practices to optimize content for search engines and improve content performance
- Quickly learn and utilize Yahoo Local’s style and voice
- Work on strict deadlines
Requirements:
- At least one year of experience covering moving and related subject matter
- 2-4 years of experience writing commerce-focused, help and how-to and/or review content
- Drive to be a true expert and trusted authority in the categories you cover
- Direct experience creating commerce-type content and knowledge of the market for it
- Exceptional copywriting and editing skills
- Comfort working within a CMS to build and update content
- Willingness to work unconventional schedules, including some weekends and holidays around major commerce events, such as Amazon Prime Day
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced, goal-driven team environment
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and an aptitude for attention to detail
- Team-player mindset and willingness to pitch in on any project to help get the job done
- Obsessed with reader experience, always looking to inform and engage our readers
- Strong editorial judgment, knowledge of standards & style
- Passion for learning new things and covering subjects outside of immediate comfort zone
- Ability to create authoritative content in areas you may not be a true expert in
