Journal Editor – Estimated: $41.4K – $57.9K a year
The Journal of Trauma-Informed Community Health Nutrition and Physical Activity (J-TICH) is an online, open-access publication funded by the California Department of Social Services SNAP-Ed Program (CalFresh Healthy Living) and managed by Leah’s Pantry. The journal is geared towards implementers, community members, and scholars of public health interventions that promote trauma-informed nutritional well-being and physical activity for communities most vulnerable to chronic disease.
JOURNAL AIMS AND COMMITMENT
As the Journal Editor, you will help J-TICH achieve its aims and fulfill its commitments.
J-TICH aims to:
- Promote trauma-informed community-generated approaches to scholarship focused on food, nourishment, nutrition security, physical activity, and community flourishing.
- Advance equity by fostering diversity and inclusion through open access to journal content.
- Foster the development and sharing of innovative or impactful SNAP-Ed interventions.
- Serve as a resource for training and technical assistance to SNAP-Ed implementers and non-funded partners.
J-TICH is committed to advancing the field of trauma-informed nutrition security by:
- Highlighting the profound impact of community and collaboration and its potential to enhance the health and well-being of SNAP-Ed participants and low-income individuals.
- Facilitating learning and growth by curating, enhancing, and disseminating rigorous, reproducible, and impactful information.
- Providing a platform for voices not traditionally heard in scholarly work to share information and tell stories.
- Sharing practice and research that connects the science of nourishment and nutrition security to the context of community engagement, interventions, and advocacy.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Journal Editor’sresponsibilities include:
- Ensuring that papers published are consistent with the journal’s aims and commitments.
- Seeking opportunities to promote the journal, including identifying places, events, and people to send promotional materials and promoting at conferences and other events.
- Inviting potential contributors to consider submitting papers to the journal.
- Identifiing indexes in which the journal should be included and passing that information on to the Journal Manager (JM).
The Editor is responsible for overseeing the editorial review process including, but not limited to
- Selecting reviewers in partnership with the JM and Journal Administrator (JA).
- Conducting the editorial review process using thepeer-review system Project Knowledge Software with the guidance and assistance of the JA.
- Assigning papers to reviewers with the appropriate knowledge and skill to evaluate them, and replacing reviewers whose reviews are inadequate or untimely.
- Acting as the final arbiter regarding the acceptance of papers when reviewers differ in their evaluations.
- Ensuring authors receive constructive feedback in a timely manner.
- Ensuring the manuscripts are complete, including illustrations, references, and contact information for the authors.
- Submitting the manuscripts for each issue on time according to the schedule agreed upon with the JM.
The Editor will see that the journal follows customary ethical policies for scholarly publishing including:
- Being prepared to bring issues related to errors and allegations of misconduct to the JM and AB, who will determine how to proceed with this issue(s).
- Ensuring that authors are treated fairly, courteously, objectively, and honestly.
The Editor will provide the JM with appropriate information about the journal’s editorial activities including, but not limited to:
- Reporting opportunities to help improve the journal to the JM.
- Reporting any significant problems that might affect the quality or timely release of the journal.
REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Research and writing experience
- Familiarity with the journal review process
Desired Qualifications
- PhD
- Experience as a journal editor
COMPENSATION
This is a one-year, volunteer position with a stipend of $1,500.00 USD.
